Why is it so important? Well right now it's because it has all been planned for a year and the wedding is in 12 weeks so can hardly change our plans! Imagine re-making and resending all invites, losing all deposits, trying to rearrange our UK reception, buying new wedding dress, etc etc!!!

At the time when we decided on it a year ago it was simply because we didn't want the UK (not religious at all) but wanted somewhere near-ish (ideally we'd have had South Africa or USA but flights too long) so that guests could come if they wanted to. We've both always loved the snow and as Lapland is such a popular place to get married as it's so different, and a once in a lifetime trip, that it was the perfect choice icon7.gif

Despite all the stress with this recently (we have both literally been ill because we've been so worried about it - which sounds pathetic even to me but it's true), we're both still looking forward to it so much. It'll be something never to forget and we won't let anyone, not even Solitair ruin it for us icon14.gif

In terms of location there is nothing nearby, the nearest town is about 20km away and there are several hotels there, but they are all 'standard' hotels not ice hotels. So there really is not other option in terms of trying other hotels...

Aha an Ice Hotel - now I see why it's so unique and demand exceeds supply. Read an article about this in the Sunday Supplement once. Wonder if they got back to you about a discount on a group booking.

Hotel got back to us - no discount though icon9.gif They say it's their peak season so can't do anything which is fair enough really! But at least we tried, not a lot else we can do now.

I'm just being really nosey now, so tell me to !!!!!! off if you want!

As per your first post, why did you decide to book the hotel/flights just 2 months ago, if everything else has been booked for a year? Why would you need a new wedding dress too?

When I booked my wedding (in Scotland next year), it was the ceremony venue and reception we booked first, with accomodation held on reserve for a fortnight for guests who wanted to stay in the hotel with us. This was all booked a year in advance. I wasn't happy to do it any other way in case something went wrong and we couldn't book some of it nearer the time.

    Hi Becles,

No that's ok, be nosy as you like icon7.gif

Well although we obviously booked ourselves and our wedding in asap months and months ago, our guests couldn't all just book just like that. Some had to save up, and some had to wait till nearer the time to see whether they could go (e.g. my niece in the RAF couldn't find out till nearer the time if she could get leave).

So although in an ideal world everyone would have booked at the start with us, it just wasn't possible.

In answer to your other new questions - my dress and accessories were all chosen based on the venue being Lapland - i.e. very cold! I've got a very very heavy thick dress with thermal underwear, and accessories consist of faux fur wraps/muffs etc so I can not really wear any of that in the UK (not that we would marry here anyway - it would be somewhere else abroad which would probably end up being somewhere hot lol).

(sighs) if only things could have gone to plan; if there's one thing we desperately wanted to go without a hitch it was planning the wedding - but I guess it will all be ok in the end...

    Hi -

Firstly in response to all the 'criticism' regarding BB wedding - let people choose their weddings to suit them - what does it matter if it isn't the 'day' we'd want - its not for us to choose. After all Martins 'bit' is to "be nice to all money savers".

The OP was about assistance regarding the back tracking of the original travel company - and I do really hope you get some redress about this for all the stress they have caused.

I hope things go a little smoother for you know and that you and your intended have a wonderful wedding in what sounds to be an absolutely wonderful - if not, just a little cold! setting. As for me, I got married in the Dom. Rep - just the two of us. Enjoy your day.

I'm getting married in Scotland, so I might need clothes like that :D

Thanks for the reply. I was just curious in how other people plan things.

Hope everything works out and you have a smashing day :)

Thanks Frugal Fox for that icon7.gif I couldn't agree more. Just because we don't want a religious ceremony in this country as per the 'norm' doesn't mean we would take offence at those that do. Each to his own, after all it would be pretty boring if we were all the same!
