Co-op Refused Bank Account

HI. Advice please - has anyone been refused a bank account with co-op. We are not yet bankrupt but being chased left right and centre from banks, credit cards, repossession. Hubby applied for cashminder account but has been refused. Anyone any ideas? He really needs a separate account for work expenses so i know and he knows how much we have for the month.
Thanks

Theres a post somewhere on here, apparently co-op do not issue cashminder accounts to anyone who has/had them as a creditor.

I have a cashminder account and one of the questions they asked was "Have you ever been a customer of the co-op or had a Smile Account?"

Have you tried Barclays basic account?

Edit : heres the link to the post http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1082143

Thanks for the link - as far as i am aware we have never owed the co-op any money. Will try barclays. If not, looks like prepaid card.

Does your hubby need an account? If it for things like wages he could have that paid into a Pre paid card like the one i have with Virgin. You can use it to make payments online and in store as its mastercard but of course no good if you want to set up direct debits and the like.

In that case i would appeal to co-op as that seems a little strange as they seem to accept most people it might be worth another call as its a really great account to have.

    Hi JMC,

When you say its for his work expenses do you mean receipt of moneys back for expenses paid out or ist to make payments for work expenses??? If its the latter he could use a pre-paid credit card.

He pays money up front for entertainment of clients, petrol etc. Some weeks it;s £300 + which is my money for the rest of the month. He gets it back from 2-6 weeks later depending on whether fuel or general expenses. This is one of the hardest things in keeping our cash flow going. I am on the virgin prepaid card window now and think it might be the way forward. thanks all. Will also appeal coop

Try appealing like k2 says but mention that you may be going bc. When i opened mine i told him i was an undischarged bc and he said these accounts are designed for us. D

Yeah i just got my Virgin Pre Paid card and i am really pleased with it as although you pay 30p for every £10 you spend on it theres no monthly fee.
