HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!

Hi, i am currently in my 2nd year of uni. when ireturned from working abroad this summer i came home to find that my student account had been closed!

This was due to ntl attempting to take money out of my account even though i had cancelled the contract with them. I kept incurring fines and these ended up taking me way over my overdraft. I have arranged with Natwest to pay this off......but now i have no bank account! :'(

I tried to apply for a Smile student account but got denied....this is because i have a default on my credit history due to a credit card i had when i was younger.

I need to open an account asap....a for my wages from my p/t job i am starting and b. for my student loan!

Can anyone recommend an account for me? Not really bothered about an overdraft anymore just a switch account thats it! An account where they dont really look into credit history if thats at all possible?

PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You need to go into one of the main high streets banks and get either a student or standard account, the internet ones will probabily be after the more premium customers (offering them better rates) which is why you were denied. You can from then start reebuilding your credit history.
Money, Money, Money ..... Banks/Casinos/Bookies give me all you money its a poor mans world....

If all else fails and you can't even open a bank account with the main high-street banks you can still open one of the new 'basic bank accounts.'

These are aimed primarily at people receiving benefits and without a credit history but anybody can open one. They have no overdraft facility at all but would be ok for the basics that you were asking for.

You can definitely open them at the post office and, possibly, some of the main banks although I'm not sure which ones offer these. ???

Hope this helps a little. :)
  • What response have you had from ntl in respect of their part in your misfortune?

  • I hope that you got the full costs out of NTL, including bank charges.
It is amazing how quickly people pay up when they get a Small Claims court summons.

You should be able to get Natwest to strike the default off your credit record, if it is NTL's fault.
  • Was the NTL agreement payment by direct debit? If it was you should certainly have had protection from the direct debit guarantee - maybe chase this up with Natwest.
  • I'd be surprised if you got anywhere with NTL. Based on my experiences they are a joke of a company. Just very cheap. I'd hate to think how long I've spent on their poxy "customer service" lines. The bank should be able to sort them out though. I migh have to do this as NTL have been randomly taking out £12.60 from my account even though I cancelled the DD ages ago.
