Aldi Pc- Is it overpriced?

After reading with great interest on the forum about the PC that Aldi are going to be selling I was getting quite excited especially with the price of £399 that was mentioned.
Well I was brought down to earth again after seeing it advertised on the Aldi website at £699.99. I'm not a computer wiz but this deal to me doesn't seem that cheap, yes it has lots of speck but you don't even get a monitor with it!
Am I been a bit harsh or is it in fact a good deal. Computer experts it's over to you.
By the way here is the link:

No reliance should be placed on the above.

I dont think the deal is too bad really. If you check the lastest time/tiny deal in the paper it is for a similar spec and you dont have to pay the delivery fee!0

doesn't look to be a bad deal, my main concern would be the graphics card, if its a good card then it could be a pretty good deal, if its a bad card then its not that great a deal... with prices ranging from £30 to £400+ this is the one part they usually skimp on. of course if you are not using it for games or dev work then it doesnt matter, but if you aren't then you dont need that kind of spec anyway, a £250 jobby will do0

Hi
Wouldn't say it's overpriced IMHO, I've got one of the Aldi pc's from a year or so ago, brilliant machine, really well built (I could built it myself but really like the spec, look and feel of the machine).
Graphics card is a Geoforce 6610XL PCI-Express x16 128mb DDR3 800Mhz, you get Freeview and digital radio, wireless lan.
More info on Aldi pc on German site here http://www.medion.de/ Click on the left hand side MD8383.
Also have a look here http://www.aldi-sued.de/product_special/product_471.html. More specs and software included etc0 -
Its a very good deal. All the components are branded and of high spec. They are obviously proud of the spec as they list every bit of it, right down to the speed of the memory sticks (which are v fast!). There's no way PC World/Time etc. would give such detail - because they couldnt match it for the money.
The DVD Re-writer is a newest, dual-layer Pioneer - can't fault that, good reviews. The Nvidia graphics card hasn't been out long, its a high spec. A high speed processor by Intel listed at its true clock speed (in the real world it'll be even quicker!) with a fat lump of 512MB memory that is 400MHz DDR ( again, fast!).
The hard drive is a quality, rated brand. It uses the latest interface with a huge 8MB cache and fast spin speed. Its 250GB, loads of room.
Most other dealers will neglect a lot of the facts, but this is a sure deal.
I work for a sw development company and my colleagues were also drooling over this today.
Sure, you'll get a cheaper pc, but this one is packed with high spec kit. And if youre upgrading and already have a monitor then even better.
Hope this helps - I tried not to get to techy!!

Crankup - my hubby knows nothing about PCs and I've tried to convince him it's a good deal. You've just sealed it!!! (not that I needed him to agree to me buying a new PC but it saves any moaning!)
Ta a lot. Looks like I'm going to Aldi next week. ;DMink0 -
Yep, just get there early - there's a reason why the pc's sell so quickly (and why people who work in IT recommend and buy them for their own pc's - they're great!).
Just look at the software you get with it as well (on my earlier link).
Have fun!0 -
Picked up the full specs today thanks golly!
Could do with a new flat screen monitor now... ;DMink0 -
I've got the MD8080 from last year - really top machine - more than pleased with it ;D ;D
Agreed, you don't get a monitor but pick up the Aria 17" tft @ £180ish and you'll have really a top-end set-up for well under a grand PLUS its ready for whatever you want to do with it - Gaming,Wi-Fi network, Bluetooth etc
IMHO the only way you'll get such a well specced machine, for this price, would be to build it yourself!!!0 -
Yup it's a good spec...and I have had a Aldi PC myself (that looks almost identical) since Xmas 2002 and I have no reason to fault it.... I work in IT and have used PC's for years, for home use I don't need all the bells and whistles... just something that is reliable and with excellent build quality, design and chosen components the Medion brand at Aldi is hard to beat.
I'd like some more info about the 17"TFT screen actually... as that doesn't seem too bad a deal....
....and how about the glamour bra and thongs ;D0 -
Computeractive usually have exclusive reviews on the Aldi PC's they have for the past few years anyway, i think the latest edition is out next week so it should be in there,
Ive been running an Aldi/Medion pc for the last couple of years, there is a big point you seem to have missed 3 YEAR ONSITE WARRANTY , just checked on PC World and for a similar priced PC they are charging £219 for the same warranty !!!!!0
