I just got stung by the AA
Yesterday I was caught out by the AA with nowhere to turn
I had to take my car off the road for about a month
The garage were happy to lend me a car and even tax it for me on the understanding that I got it covered by my own insurance
I thought it would be s simple matter of switching cars on my policy and switching back afterwards
I had not long ago paid £160 for one years cover for my Cavalier
The car I was being lent is a Mondeo
admittedly its a younger and more valuable car
a T reg instead og a G and worth £1500 instead of £500
I had asked for a temporary switch of cover but that would have worked out more expensive. It had to be an additional vehicle on the existing policy
I still cant see the justification for them charging £85 for only 28 days
I was stuck.
The garage, whose a friend had already paid £90+ to tax it only so I could use it and I had "take it or leave it" from the AA with no where else to go and no other way to get home. I really need a car and wont drive illeagally
Its too late for me now under these present circumstances but is anyone knowledgeable about these matters?
Are there any alternatives in this case?
Is it the AA or are all companies as bad as this?
Next year I'm almost certainly going to leave the AA
They already stung me for £17 extra on my policy last september because muy car was 1 year younger than the one they quoted for. This was for a 13 year old car. As if a year younger , (actually by only a few months) should make any difference.

Churchill allow us to switch between loan cars when ours are being serviced at no extra charge. The last time we did the difference in value of the cars was £4,000 and still we were not charged. Added to that, they switched my insurance to the loan car on day one up to when we collected my car and at that moment the cover switched onto my husband's policy as he was dropping his off at the same time as collecting mine. It was all seamless and we received policy documents for both days showing the loan car. Whether it made a difference because our cars were being left in the garage and therefore under their insurance I don't know or whether the short length of time made a difference but that was how it worked for us.0

I've stuck with Churchill for the last couple of years, I'm a tart too and have found that no-one has been able to touch them on price for me - also, whenever I've had to contact them with a query, their staff have been fab!! Really pleasant & helpful.
No, I don't work for them, they've just been great.
