up until very recently (stolen yesterday) i had a tomtom one v3, i now need to replace it, does anyone know the difference between the one and the cheaper explore? I'm also pretty sure I read somewhere about a cheap satnav from maplins etc.. which could run tomtom software (I don't want to go PDA again)

TomTom seem to have gone for maximum customer confusion with their product range!
It seems that they've renamed the One V.4 to be the XL, and all the XLs (except the One XL) have the new built-in mount but no SD card slot (unless they forgot to mention it in the specs). So... it now looks as though all of the models called One have the old-style mount, and only the One XL Classic has an SD card slot. But it will all probably have changed again tomorrow...
Looks like you need to decide which mount type suits you and whether you need the card slot and choose accordingly.
I've only just changed from TomTom on a PDA, but I chose Garmin Nuvi and have no regrets (so far).0
