Car failed MOT. How does part exchange work?
Options
Hi! Hope someone can help!
My car failed its MOT and the garage can't get the parts for it (needs new brakes). They've advised me to part exchange it as it's a City Rover and spare parts are v. rare. It's still got 2 weeks left on its current MOT. When I part exchange it should I tell the car dealer that it failed its MOT? Would I get a lot less for it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like they saw you coming!
Which bit of the brakes needs replacing?0 -
Needs front brake discs and pads replacing. Garage can get the discs but there's a 6 month waiting list for the pads!0

If you want to keep the car try and source the brake parts yourself and take them to the garage to fit them. Presumably its an old car and you may be attached to it so dont feel intimidated into buying again. Take it to another local independant garage for an other opinion, i bet they'll be able to get the parts for you.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Parts shouldn't be particularly rare. Try some of these places and ebay.

Here's some on Ebay - unfortunately I am cringing at the price compared with what I pay for parts for my car

youd get a better deal with a full mot0

You might get more money than you would as a trade-in by listing it on ebay as spares or repair clearly stating the exact problems needing attention.0

try sending an enquiry to these guys, they specialize in tata parts (your city rover is the tata indica)

Oh well, at least you will not lose a fortune, they were only £3999 brand new.
You could try selling it or trading it in without an MOT, you obviously will not get much for it.;)0 -
Right i sell car parts for a living and have no problem getting brake parts for the cityrover. In fact my local MG specialist just happens to by Endon Services who are the people linked to above on ebay.
There are two sizes 230mm discs and also 260mm discs with one set of pads suiting both sizes. The 230mm discs are about £25 each plus VAT. Endon have them all in stock. Call Steve the parts guy there on 01782 505050 and he can sort them out for you.0
