Car failed MOT. Can I part exchange it for a decent price?
Hi! Hope someone can help!
My car failed its MOT and the garage can't get the parts for it (needs new brakes). They've advised me to part exchange it as it's a City Rover and spare parts are v. rare. It's still got 2 weeks left on its current MOT. When I part exchange it should I tell the car dealer that it failed its MOT? Would I get a lot less for it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,
My Cinquecento failed its MOT 2 weeks ago and it still had a week to go. I was really bitter as I had spent £400 on new parts to get it through, and then it failed on emmissions. When the garage looked at it further they found that it was the beginning of the end for the engine so I decided not to do any more work on it.
I put it on ebay as spares/repair and got £255 for it, by the time I had reclaimed the tax and insurance (I don't need another car for a few months) I had basically recouped my £400 so it wasn't a bad outcome.
With a good listing you would probably get more for it on ebay than anywhere else (it is especially desirable in that it is still legal to drive), although it did help also that my car had a lot of new parts. Make a big deal of these if you have any.

I tried trading in my car with a short MOT, of course they offered me rock bottom prices, I then said ok how much more if I get it MOT'd to which the reply was wont make much difference mate !! Unfortunately short MOT coupled with City Rover isnt going to get you much in this day and age.0
