Advice On Volvo S60 Needed?

volvo s60 d5 2005/54

have noticed a rattle that eminating from the parcel shelf that is noticed on rough roads. I took it into Volvo today and they told me that the rattle was coming from the centre seatbelt mount in the parcel shelf??. The cost of replacing the centre seat belt unit would be approx £ 300 which seems rather excessive. I have requested the dealership to take this up with Volvo on my behalf as a seat belt item is fundamental to the safety of the vehicle and does not constitute a wear and tear item. The Dealership said they would try but were not optimistic? If this repair cost is rejected and if i were to take it up with Volvo what points to i need to make to make the case stronger?

your advice would be much appreciated. By the way the seat belt does work

i wouldnt hold out much hope, the car is well out of warranty, fundamental or not.
the best you can hope for is a bit of goodwill from volvo.but even at that you will still need to pay the dealer for fitting unless you do it yourself.
    ...work permit granted!
  • have you tried pulling the seat belt out when driving along to see if it stops?

maybe wrap it round a headrest as an experiment

yes, i have pulled the seat belt out but no difference the rattle still exist on poor surfaces. i receievd a call from volvo today and was notified that a manager would make a decision on this matter tomorrow
  • I doubt whatever it is means that the seatbelt clip needs replacing. More likely that something just needs tightening, the trouble being that nobody will want to touch it as its a safety item.

Personally I would just fix it myself.
  • my money is on roof lining or number plate
