Should i just give up?

Hello,
I got a parking fine a few weeks ago for parking on a ramp that led down to a river. The other end connected on to a side street that runs along the water front. The ramp goes down from the road and into the water, there is no through traffic and it is never used for loading etc as there is a boat house 100m down the road.

There is a single yellow line that runs down the ramp and is supposed to stop before the water, where after you can park with no concerns. The line is severely deteriorated from water damage when the water rises and as such there is no distinct point at which the yellow line ends and it is very broken up along its length. There was a van parked down the bottom but I could not see where the line ended due its extremely patchy, deteriorated appearance.

I disputed the ticket but they have stated that the condition of the yellow line bears no relevance and they dismissed my claim that it is not clear what time the enforcements apply. I said there was no clear signage if you come into the town in a certain direction as I did but I still dispute that.

I still believe this is an unnecessary and unfair fine since my parking there does not obstruct businesses or residents in any way and it is on a road with no through traffic.
So do you think I have a leg to stand on or should I just let this one go and pay it?

Law states that it needs to be an unbroken line to be a parking ticket offence, doesn't it?!

If the line was broken/deterioriated, then it simply doesn't meet the regulations as explained here & can't be enforced:

You should take photos and then appeal to the adjudication service, there's lots of info on www.pepipoo.com including template letters (the second link above has a template you may consider using)
