Weird connection problem!

I've been tearing my hair out over a connection problem I've been having recently.

For about 15-30 mins at a random time every afternoon I am unable to connect to my dedicated server... to be more accurate I can ping and traceroute it, but cannot access it: through the browser (HTTP), via FTP, or via SSH

I have a number of domains hosted on there and I cannot access any of them, nor the IP address directly. The crazy thing is that every other computer on our LAN is able to access the server during this time, except mine!

I have pretty much narrowed it down to either: a software issue on my computer (I have tried switching Zone Alarm off but it doesnt help), or an issue on our broadband router... I dont expect anyone here to be able to solve this directly, but can anyone make any suggestions, or point me towards a diagnosis tool which may be able to help me?

Just a silly question, and it's caught me out a couple of times. Do you use DHCP, and what time does the lease expire. Is it on a 24 hour lease, and is this around the renewal time? I lose my RDP session when my lease renews to my server, although everything else is ok!

I've just checked and its on a 24 hour lease, so it starts when I log in at 8:30am and should expire at the same time the following day... I will keep an eye on it when the connection goes down though, thanks

Not always the case, if the computer network connection is re-established before the 24 hours is up, it takes the remaining time, and then renews when the 24 hours is up on the DHCP server.

To check the renewal time, open a dos prompt and type "ipconfig /all", this shows the lease and it's renewal time.

Its just happened again!... I checked the ipconfig settings and its well within the lease time, even so I did an ipconfig release and a renew and its not fixed it!

    Any other ideas?
  • Lease is renewed prior to lease ending at a specific time. Increase the lease time to a few days to see if that helps. How many concurrent connections do you have, may be too few and something else is taking the last one?

I assume the lease time is set on the DHCP server?... unfortunately I cant log into the broadband router to change it
