Asda Petrol Station in Manchester

Hi All, Has anyone purchased diesel fuel from the Asda petrol station in Hulme, Manchester? If yes, has anyone had any problems with their car? I filled up with diesel at the station on the 2nd August and my car broke down 4 days later. The mechanics say that the tank was full of petrol. I certainly did not fill the car with petrol, I filled it from a diesel pump and have the reciept to prove it. Asda don't want to know and say that I filled with diesel at their pump, used the fuel and then filled the car somewhere else with petrol which I most definately did not!! Can you let me know if you have had any problems and if you have reported this to Asda. Thanks!

Have you asked Asda if they have any CCTV footage (I believe this is something you could request under DPA also) and that could clear things up.

Well dependant on the age of your car, most new cars have slightly different sized filling points on the tanks so you can't physically fit the wrong nozzle into it.

Agree with Noz, under the Data Protection Act you have the right to request the CCTV footage (and they will have it!) and that they supply you with it. If they can't provide it, then they really have no proof! You need to get on to Trading Standards for advice..........I am sick to the back teeth of large companies pushing individuals around............get advice and don't drop it till you get a satisfactory outcome if you really believe you are in the right!

    Good luck

Don't petrol and diesel smell different? Could you have a quick sniff?

Yes, the petrol ones are smaller, so you can't put diesel in a petrol car, but you can still put petrol in a diesel. I know many people who have done it by accident with hire cars!!

If the OP is sure it was diesel, and the receipt says diesel (quite a difference in price per litre!!), then perhaps there could have been petrol in the diesel pump?!?!

I'd try posting in a local forum to see if anyone else has had any problems.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

4 days before the car broke down running on petrol? I wouldnt have though it would travel much of a distance running on petrol! It wouldnt have got much further than just outside the forecourt I wouldnt imagine, unless there were a lot of diesel already in the tank. Are you sure you havnt filled the car up since then?

4 days is a long time on the wrong fuel!
how far had you driven in this time?
how full was the tank before filling and how much did you put in?
what has the garage done to address the car 'fault'?

A tanker driver did this with a petrol station in Peterborough this week, so it does happen. Story is on peterboroughtoday.co.uk

3 cars were damaged before it was discovered and the station closed down. But after 4 days you'd expect more than 1 person to have come forward. Maybe they have and Asda have all told them the same thing but you'd hope not. Local press?

My grandad did it once, it started for about 30 seconds, couldn't even leave the garage forecourt, and he's very tight with his money (just the way he likes to be), so it was a little bit of a giggle winding him up about it for a while, filling a diesel with petrol, but luckily, no lasting damage, once the whole tank was syphoned out, all better :)

4 days thouh, never though a vehicle would last a day with the wrong fuel... never heard of anyone getting out of the forecourt before.
