Direct Debit payments being collected early

Hi,
My understanding of the direct debit agreement is that payments must be collected on the same date monthly, unless that date falls on a weekend or bank holiday, in which case the payment should go out the next available banking day after the true collection date (ie later, not earlier).
I have had a considerable number of payments from various companies being claimed and debited earlier than the agreed date.
Can you tell me who is at fault? Is it the creditor for requesting payment too early, or the bank for paying it too early. Tentative enquiries have lead to both parties blaming the other - so I'd like to know who it really is I should be targetting with my complaint.
Thanks 8-)

A direct debit is collected by the company that you authorised. So I would say that the people claiming the money are to blame.
Perhaps if you could give a specific example of what you mean for clarity.
Some mandates may have on them payment 'every 4 weeks' or on 'xx working day of the month' or a 'set date' or even 'on or after xx day of the month'.
Before replying I think it would be useful if you got hold of one or two of the mandates to check this.0
