New TV - extended warranty?

In the process of buying a TV for about £700 I have the option of buying a 5 year extended warranty for £125. This is the same price quoted on https://www.warrantydirect.co.uk (linked from this site) for 1 year so it seems worth buying cover at the time of TV purchase. My contents insurer (eSure) say they cover accidental damage but not if the set develops a fault - they put that down to either a design or a manufacturing fault and won't cover that situation. It seems best to buy extended cover at the time of buying the set even though my own experience is that it is likely to be very reliable for 10+ years and if problems arise, I'd expect them inside the first year - in which case I'm covered by the standard warranty. Any thoughts or ideas one way or the other?

Is your experience from old CRT (cathode ray rude) TVs?
If so then I'm afraid you will find that the new plasmas and LCDs are a lot less reliable and can be expensive to fix.
If you can get a resaonable price from John Lewis then that's a great suggestion.0 -
Yes lisyloo - it'sa good point, plasma doesn't perform well at altitude for instance - there are real differences.
Daveyjp - thanks, I would never have thought of trying John Lewis. I checked on their site and their cost was equal (within £5) to the combined cost of the set and extended warranty from Amazon so not much difference. I just found out that if I actually go to the Sony Centre itself (Warrington) that they will include the 5 year warranty for free even though they are about £15 more expensive that Amazon on the set so that has worked out best overall - I hope that's useful for someone else.
Thanks for the replies nontheless.
