grease on tshirt...didnt wash out...any ideas?

Options
hey there
i have a purple tshirt, and its got blobs of grease/oil on it from cooking a few nights ago.
once i realised i'd done it, i gave it a quick rinse in warm water, and then washed it properly yesterday....but the oil is still there! noooooooooooo!

any ideas what can get it out? if anything?

its pretty obvious (big blobs all across the front of it), so can't wear it as it is, but even though it was only about £5 I really like it and dont want to chuck it unless everything fails

so.....any ideas?? please???!
thanks in advance...

    Hiya :)

If you look in the Cleaning section of the MEGA Index sticky at the top of the Old Style forum you'll find a couple of threads listed under "clothes" about grease stains that might help you.

If you tumble dried the clothes after washing you may have set the stain in, but even so, one of our regular posters, Nile, has put together a couple of very helpful posts on powders and stains which you can see in our "Save Zillions on Cleaning" thread which you can find in the Indexed Collections link in the Blue Bar at the top of every page which looks something like this:-

    Hello holstar

    Welcome to the MSE site.

When you say you 'washed it properly', can you tell us what product you used?

For example, if you washed the t shirt in the washing machine with Ariel Biological Automatic powder.............that is what I would do/use.........or I might do a pre-soak first, depending on the size/type of stain.

    Kind Regards

Try rubbing neat washing up liquid into the grease marks & washing again as normal.
    Usually works for me

    hey, thanks
'washed it properly'...in a uni washing machine with ariel liquitabs on medium temperature (machine built for stupid students to use, so only a choice of 3 temps). I didnt pre-soak or anything before chucking it in washing machine as the stain didnt look as bad as it does now.
it then had about 5 mins in a tumble dryer on medium heat.

will have look now at the mega cleaning links.....essays can wait!

    thanks again

I agree with Lucie. I once washed and aired a top the tumble drier. Only to find a greasy stain on it. It was the oil from a tin of tuna. I put neat washing up liquid on it and washed again came out fine.

You might want to test it first using a inside piece just to make sure. And put the washing up liquid and put it straight in to the machine in to wash.

Going off the subject slightly but reminds me of Phoebie on Friends, she had a stain on her posh frock and pinned on an xmas deco the size of her head - very funny. lol

    thanks again!

Isn't there some trick about ironing with brown paper on it to draw the grease out?
