Warning about bio powder on carpets for those who don't know :o)

Hi everyone!

I've always used bio powder if in doubt to get rid of stains (esp human and food ones, of which there are plenty in our house with 2 toddlers!).

My 3yr old spilt a full cup of milk on the carpet and my mum suggested bio powder and cold water, which I tried. I noticed the towel was coming up a funny colour when I was drying it...

The following morning I was left with a huuuuge orange stain on my light brown carpet.

Contacted the insurance company and they sent a lady who said that it was a mild bleach and wasn't at all surprised at the mess it had made. The only solution was a new carpet :o

I'm sure lots of folk know this already, but if you're an inexperienced bio powder user like me, I hope this stops someone else making the same mistake! ;)

Best wishes
Luce

I wish! Just our luck, £75 excess and higher premiums next year. Pretty new carpet too! Sigh.

Still, we're hoping to use the carpet for the stairs instead (minus the stained bit). That's when the huuuuger wee stain has been sorted after my husband tipped a full potty onto it this week.......:o Our insurance company are charging us £50 to keep it to use on the stairs mind you.

First ever claim too! Never mind, you live and learn !

We had thought about that...just in half of the room though where they eat and make the most mess (it's a through lounge/dining room) but wondered if it might look odd with the strip to separate em, etc.

Would pee on laminate not be just as bad though? Would it all warp as well as stink? Probably be easier to put kids in the garden with the chickens (and OH too..)

I think you can buy laminates for use in kitchens / bathrooms, which are waterproof, and washable?

They are wrong to charge you to keep the old carpet. Its wrong wrong wrong, I was an insurance administrator and all carpets were left for them to dispose of if we took the carpet we charged a disposal fee simple as that......Get on the phone and tell them as this carpet had all ready been paid for you don't see why should have to pay for you to get rid of it yourself. As they would have to pay for a disposal fee. I have through lounge diner too and was thinking exactly the same for the laminate in the dining half??????? Stll haven't made my mind up after 3 years lol
You can touch the dust but please don't write in it !

Would you like to speak to the man in charge, or the woman who knows whats happening?

I can't believe you have been charged to keep your own carpet!!!!

When something similar happened to us (bottle of orange pop) the carpet fitter just left the rolled up old bit as we saved him from having to dispose of it - It spent 3 years in the dining room!!

Oh dear, it did sound a bit odd. We were told by the lady who came to see it that they'd probably get £300 at auction for it, hence the charge. I wonder if it's because it's only 3 years old?

I'm wondering whether this is an arguable point..I will give it a go on Monday!

Thanks for the heads up on that!

    Best wishes

ps just been told by husband that woman who came said it was the insurance companys' property once we'd decided to get a new carpet so they wouldn't budge. Hmm!??

Hmmm...I was thinking on the plus side I'd be able to do painting at the dining table cos there's nowhere else to do it in our house. Buuuut, the might run it through to the other side. Plus they run up and down the room (we have a small garden!) and I was worried they might go from carpet to laminate and skid about and crack their heads open (may be irrational fears, all part of my condition, lol!). The joiny bit does worry me too as we're hoping to move in the next 18 months and I'm not sure if they could make it look nice.

Would be interested to hear others thoughts?
