Help!!!!!!!!! How can I get rid of a HUGE moth that's in my kitchen. It's absolutely huge. It would cover the top of my computer mouse if it landed on it. I don't mind moths normally, just the little ones but this thing is !!!!!! huge. Don't think the Dyson would cope with it, probably get jammed in the hose, yuk.

catch it in a tea towel and shake it outside?0

If you have an outside light nearby put it on and switch off the light in the room you are in. Hopefully it will fly out of window or door to light. If no outside light use a candle or torch to draw it out.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)0

Thanks for the tip, I'll attempt to sweep it up and throw it out the window. It's blinkin massive. Daddy longlegs, wasps, moths yuk, yuk, yuk.
Tried, it got away and fell on the floor, now the kitchen windows wide open for the crawlers to fly in, oh geez. In the lounge with the door shut tight.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.” - Oscar Wilde0 -
This thread has just reminded me... a few weeks ago I had a bat fly in through the bedroom window, at midnight just as we were going to bed.
Took 2 hours to get it out... bat poo everywhere _pale_
I'd happily have a big moth any day

You have to put the light out of the room it's in. Moths are attracted to light.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)0

I've cautiously gone round the kitchen and there is no sign of it, perhaps it flew out of the window. I hate creepy crawlies. Why can't someone invent a bug buster sucker upper, which a huge nozzle attachment on it of considerable length so you can get rid of bugs and beasties. Usually with wasps etc I spray them with whatever comes to hand, glass cleaner, flash etc etc until they can't fly anymore. and then throw in the bin. Don't like swatting things because then you have to wipe up all the guts etc. Thanks for the tips everyone. I've got an old tupperware tub that I can throw on top of it if it comes to light.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. You can get a thingy from Betterware and places like that, with a handle with a clear scoopy thing. A big jar/glass and some paper does just as well though.
I'm ok with hairy things like moths, it's the baldy spiders I can't stand...Annabeth Charlotte arrived on 7th February 2008, 2.5 weeks early0 -

She also dislikes spiders, and so does her fiance. The other day she rang me to say that there was a spider living in their conservatory, and she was afraid to vacuum it up because someone had told her that spiders live through the process of vacuuming & lurk in the cleaner for ever more, presumably only coming out at the moment most guaranteed to frighten her! I suggested she vacuum them up anyway, then the spider will go straight into the bag. (The thought of some unfortunate spider clinging on half way down the pipe sounds fun, but seems unlikely to me!) Then dispose of the bag immediately after switching off the vacuum cleaner - giving said spider, in the unlikely event that he has survived the vacuuming, no opportunity to climb to the top of the bag, as he will be too dazed & covered with dust to make a quick getaway or even to think of pulling faces at her!0 -
Awww. thats awful!! Put yourself in the spiders shoes...nice?? - NO
If you want to live and thrive - Let a spider stay alive...
Just ask someone who is not scared to move em, or do the paper and glass thing.
I also rescue worms on dry pavements, put them back onto grass, or something damper so they can get away before they get squished or dry out too much to move.Bless Martin's Little Cotton Socks. I thank him for giving us MSE. Look what its grown into!
