travl insurance question

We have an annual worldwide policy which expires on January 3 2006
We can't renew it because my husband is now 71 and the limit is 70
We won't be going to America until April/May so to put off buying another annual policy until then, this was the idea.
On Dec 18 we are going to Tenerife for a month, what we thought we would do was to take out a single policy to start on the day our annual one expires, so it would cover us for the remaining time we are there, the insurer told me that it would have to be taken out on the day we fly out for the whole month. We can't be insured for half the time on one policy and the other half with a different one.
My questions are :
If I take out a single policy from January 3rd for approx 14 days will it not be legal ?
Will we not be covered if we have a claim ?
TIA

you wont be covered - most policies stipulate that you have to start and finish the trip inthe UK, so you cannot have a policy start while youre already outside of the UK.if it's more than 10 stone, and that hairy, it's probably not a dog...it may be a wookie.0
