also those network adapters are used to connect hard drives and with a bit of software you can load games onto the hard drive and save ur ps2 laser.

can you connect an external usb hardrive and is it compatibile with the slim version ps2. I,m guessing you mean it can take a standard internal hard drive and connects it to your pc .

Just sticking my 2p in at the last minute :)

Stick with the official Sony PS2 adaptor if you can. Third party adaptors can be a bit "iffy".

I'd highly recommend NOT buying a second hand network adaptor from anywhere. It's possible that the previous owner will have cheated or been up to other mischief and may have been banned from playing online. The player account is tied in to the network card so may cause you problems if you don't know who the original owner was.

As for the PS2 hard drive, yes you can plug standard PC hard drives in and they do work... got one in mine. However, there are a few models which are slightly to big to fit inside the case. Have a look here for models that work... http://ps2drives.x-pec.com/

Hard drive support for Europe on the PS2 was extremely limited, in fact I can only think of one game, Final Fantasy, which has hard drive support. SOCOM2 in the USA had support for new maps, but unfortunately we didn't end up getting that. Once you've got your hard drive you can use software which will allow you to copy your games off the CD / DVD on to the hard drive and most play perfectly well. However, the copy protection system means that you'll have trouble playing many online games without the original CD.

And before this post gets too long, have a look on the PS2 forums if you are planning to go online. Many games that support Sony's Central station system will have admins or volunteers running game nights, either to show new players around, competitions etc. Check out... http://uk.playstation.com/user/forums.jhtml

Its better to be late in this life than early in the next one.

    Slow down speed kills.

Is just the network adaptor for £19.40 + £3.21 delivery

  • Am I right in thinking that you can use any USB 10/100 Ethernet Adapter to play online games instead of buying the PS2 Network adaptor?

    e.g. one like this one

    http://www.microdirect.co.uk/ProductInfo.aspx?ProductID=3500&GroupID=711

If so then we could search for the cheapest USB 10/100 Ethernet Adapter instead of the PS2 Network Adaptor.......................?

What are your thoughts? Does anyone have experience of using this?

I'm afraid that's not going to be possible. The PS2 Network Adaptor does not plug in to the PS2 via a USB port, like the USB Ethernet Adapter you've shown will have to be connected. The PS2 Network Adaptor plugs in to a slot at the back of the PS2 which allows it to go online.

  • On the http://www.consoleplus.co.uk web site they are selling a USB 10/100 Ethernet Adaptor for the PS2:

    http://www.consoleplus.co.uk/product_info.php?pName=usb-network-adapter-for-playstation2-and-pc

However it is currently showing as out of stock

Therefore one can only assume that it does work????
