Playstation 2 Network Adapter

Sorry if this has been posted before.
I've just heard that Sony have stopped production of the PS2 Network Adapter, necessary for online gaming. Apparently this is a push to make people upgrade to the slimline PS2 which has a network port built-in.
With the release of Pro Evolution Soccer 5 last week these things are like gold dust.
Stocks in online stores have dried up, but for some reason Currys branches still seem to have them and have reduced their price from £25 to £14.97. I got the second last one in Uddingston this afternoon.
If this is true about production stopping, then anyone with an old style PS2 who plans to take it online at some point would be wise to act now.

Good post, I had a terrible time getting hold of one but didn't know they had stopped production - how stupid is that?
Paid £25 for a pre-owned one in my local gamestation in the end, it also came with a free game.0 -
Seems there is still stock at Amazon although it was "Out of stock" at Game.
Ebay had 31 when I last looked so it may be true?0 -
When in Currys check if they have the Twisted Metal Black bundle which includes the network adaptor at the cheaper price of £12.47 for both (or possible cheaper as they have been that price for ages now).0

also those network adapters are used to connect hard drives and with a bit of software you can load games onto the hard drive and save ur ps2 laser.ummm...0

After having a look on E-bay for the PS2 Network Adapter I came across a Ethernet adaptor that clams to be PS2 compatible and USB adaptor, this look very simpler to the USB Ethernet adaptor that NTL give you just incase you don’t have a network card in you PC (then you have the TV package), which lead me to thinking???? Would this work ???? I think I have one, at home so I will test and report back. If anyone has had a go at this please let us know
I guess I should use some other forum for this ?0 -
i'm guessing its the black usb box with just a network adapter it looks ok but unf it wont work as a HDD as the normal playstation 2 netword adapter actually has a hard drive pin rack on the back so this other one wont work for that!
as far as im aware you can only get the official sony network (hdd) apater for putting a HD onto your pc! HDD IS THE BEST BIT ABOUT HAVING THE ADAPTER
