We were on our way into Wetherspoons early one evening with my OH's 11 yr old, and as we were walking to the family area the barman bellowed across as us 'SHE can't come in here' I said we were eating and perfectly entitled to as long as we were out by 9.
Little did he know we were only there to mystery shop them.

cool, how does that work do you send a report in to HO and do you ever get feedback on your comments.0 -
a bar person and bar manager have the right to refuse service to anyone without having to justify there reasons
however it does not give them an excuse to be rude

You were quite entitled to stay in there until 9pm as you were with adults, who weren't even drinking, so not going to exceed the "2 drinks" rule!
I've been in a wetherspoons with friends and their 2 year old until 8.58pm, at which time we had to leave due to (cranky!) child in pushchair!
I'd write a letter to headquarters telling them how rude their staff were, and that they can shove any future custom up their own @rses!*
*perhaps phrase that a little politer!
If you had no drinks and you had finished your food, then I think it is quite fair for them to ask you to leave, so that they could use the table for somebody that was eating/ drinking?
Do you mean that they were not drinking alcohol? If so, afaik the rule is two drinks of any sort, not just alcohol.Gone ... or have I?0 -
Thanks for everyones help!
I think i'll just write and ask them to explain there ruling to me as I do visit Whetherspoons quite frequently!
Just a few things people asked/said:
Loaner: I agree with Tozer, bouncers don't negotiate!!!
DMG: We had only just ordered our food, so we hadn't finished, there were also many many spare tables, and also we hadn't even ordered ANY drinks of ANY kind, just food!!
They probably are allowed just to ask who ever they want to leave, but I just wanted to know where I stood if I go there again as I don't want to ruin my friends night as i'm the only one under 18
2 months and I can go anywhere, yay!0 -

This credit crunch thing though, just imagine how many companies are going to be blaming their sagging custom on it. When people start to find that money is tight, then they start to spend more wisely. And being treated like dirt sticks very much in people's minds when they could just as easily stay at home.
I don't think they'll be too harshly affected by the credit crunch, they make a lot of their money during the day, and the type of people drinking at those times every day put the drink first and everything else second, they probably haven't heard of the credit crunch.Bought, not Brought0 -
I think it is all rather silly i wouldnt go back to a dreggy place who orders you out as soon as you have finished your food , go to and take your kids to the more up market restaurants you will not get this hassall(and yes i know there are the types who take there kids to pubs till kicking out time im not classing them as decent folk) as mentioned above with the credit crunch may be posts will be moved , i was never refused entry in to night clubs in my younger days but i never understood people coming back after being asked to leave , if i was ever refused entry it would be no going back why put money in there pockets??0

I used to work for them (unfortunately).
I wouldn't set foot in one voluntarily.0
