Which Woodburner?
Comments

Clearview every time - why? In decades of working with stoves OH reckons this is the bees knees for controllability.0

We went to a pub recently with a log burner and all came home smelling of smoke, it turned me off having one...do you get that with the quality stoves like clearview please?0
-
I should imagine that was a case of burning green wood. The big problem we find with pubs is that they have the stove on 24/7 and 1. they forget to have the chimney swept (quite a few chimney fires) and 2. because of the high amount of wood used they will chuck anything on.0

I put a clearview vision 500 in about a month ago and it is fantastic room is 20ft by 11 and the stove is 8kw which may seem a bit too much but as it warms up we open the lounge door then the hallway and finally the utility, havent had the gas heating on since and the whole house is warm the vision is expensive at £1450 with smoke control kit, stove pipe and chimney liner was £350 online, did it all myself and very pleased with it, stove is in kitchen/dinersmoke free since 16 feb 080

Did you get a Building Control cert for it ageing? And as its over 5 Kw you need an air vent to an external source. Im a bit worried about the cost of that liner. You did use the twin walled one didnt you? and insulated it?.0

hi hethmar the liner is twinwall it was £14/metre + vat 500mm stove pipe, t piece as its flued of the back twin wall to flue pipe connector, closure plate and bracket,600mm chimney pot was reclaimed from garden as a new one was £33+vat, air vent is in and ducted clos to stove, its back filled with micafil as for building control cert, no chance I spent 5 years as an apprentice bricklayer/mason and covered all types of flues and chimneys and I have a city and guilds certificate, paying bc fees of a couple of hundred for some one to come round for 5 mins who probably has no where near as much knowledge of the subject as me isnt going to happen, I spoke to my insurers and they are happysmoke free since 16 feb 080

Only prob with that is if you go sell the house and they will want the cert but if you intend to stay there. £14 is very low - Im guessing its just the 316 liner - we dont use that one.0

hethmar - just wondering if you could help on this. I really want a woodburner but dont have a chimney; I know it's not really a problem but what are the cost implications of this. I live on a gable end? house circa 45 years old. And do I get the quotes from same ppl off HETAS?
thanks,0 -
Anything is possible as long as you are happy to pay for it
You may want to contact a local woodburner shop (a good one) and ask their advice - once you feel its within your means then you can get a few HETAS quotes.

get the experts in, this is not an area to be trying to save money as there are too many things that you need to know:
Adequate air supply, Distance to Conbustable Materials, Min lenght of flue? liner right way up? Extractor fans? Insulation, Air Flow, Draw? Min Size of hearth? Materials & thickness of hearth? Raised or not? Cleaning access? Adjacent walls Thickness and material make up?
All these things and more need your attention and consideration if you are to safely install a woodburner or lives may be at risk!
Fit your own kitchen & lay your own floor but leave fire to the experts!
Get a price for your stove online but buy locally and use your internet price to bargain with but I personally would pay a lot more to buy face to face than save a few pounds buying from a faceless web based company that may not even be there if something went wrong.
As a HETAS installer I only fit stoves that have been supplied locally companies where I know & trust the owners & can verify that the materials used are HETAS approved materials.
I do not install internet sourced stoves or materials, if there is any issue I want to talk with someone face to face!0
