It,s interesting to read all these opinions, some apparently expert.
We,ve had several visits/quotes by Hetas and Nace people and their "advice" has been so varied it's ridiculous !
One chap sat in the fireplace the whole time and we had to drag any info out of him(fortunately we'd done quite a bit of research and had other visits before he came) He said they,d use fireproof board as it was difficult to cut metal to fit properly for the plate.Wasn't keen to insulate the liner and didn't give us any confidence at all.He did,nt sell stoves and gave a lower estimate.
The other estimates were all around £1200, but less if we bought a stove(all RRP) from them. They all said different things and left us fairly hesitant to proceed.
Then we came upon a real, well documented (trust me I checked) expert. He assures us, despite my uncertainty, that we need something the size of a Morso Panther or a Morso 06 if we want the heat to filter into other rooms/upstairs.We have been considering a Morso so that wasn,t his idea he will supply whatever we prefer but is adamant a smaller stove won,t do the job.0 -
As I said above Cairn, quality does vary even when the installer is apparently registered with HETAS sadly. We have actually been called in to replace work done by other HETAS members
Fortunately they are weeded out as time passes ...............
I also said that it really depends on your usage. Some people just want a stove for the aesthetics, others to heat just one particular room and yet others, as much of the house as possible. So if you trust this man and he has worked out the size for you, then go with him
LOL, just reread your posting - the bloke sat in the fireplace the whole time??. We make register plates on the spot from galvanised steel.
If you feel doubtful about anything, you can always contact NACE or HETAS direct and speak to technical advisers there, or indeed ring the chosen stove manufacturer for their opinions.0 -
I too and finding the information conflicting about flue or no flue. The Clearview Pioneer 400 also seems to be very popular. Can anyone recommend a retailer who has it in stock and can beat £970 ?0
-
You need to look at the Clearview site for dealers. The trouble is, they are selling as many as they can make (in fact there was a 2 months waiting list recently!) so the chances of any discounts are very remote.
If anyone has any queries, then ring the manufacturers for advice and get them to put it in writing.0 -
I've looked at the brands you mention H. I'm very indecisive and this is going to take forever if I don't get on with it - and wife is getting fed up of me.
The Clearview is too expensive for us, especially as it's only for a secondary source of heat.
As I'm in a smokeless zone and not all are suitable, think I'll go for the Stovax Stockton 5.
Will contact the three HETAS fitters in our area that don't have showrooms (hoping that will make it cheaper!) for quotes.
Thanks for all you help!0 -
Stovax is a good one0

I've been reading this thread with interest as I'm about to purchase a multi fuel stove to go in a room 15'x12', but hopefully some heat will filter out into the rest of the house.
I like the look of the Tiger Multifuel Plus and Carron 6.7kw. Any opinions on these two stoves?
Also, the builder who is preparing the fireplace has offered to install the stove, (he's fitted several, apparently)but he isn't HETAS registered. Can anyone tell me how much it costs for the local authority to sign off a stove installation?
In other words, is it cheaper and/or better to get a HETAS person to fit and self certify the work?0 -
Woodwarm are highly recommended not as cheap as some other beware of some on ebay you get what you pay for .
Ours is excellent only had it for 2 weeks but will never look back..0 -
I wasn't planning to buy from ebay - both stoves mentioned are in stock at our local supplier. I saw a Woodwarm actually lit in the showroom - fabulous! A bit expensive for my needs, sadly.0
