turn off hardware acceleration on your graphics card.
play your DVD on any player
take screenshot
to disable hardware acceleration:
right click on desktop
properties
advanced
then - find the tab associated with acceleration, and remove tick from "hardware acceleration."
Turn it back on when your done. It is not possible to take pictures of DVDs with it on.0 -
But if I do that what program shall I paste the result to?
As with photoed I just get a black picture.0 -
its because you havent turned hardware acc off.
Doesnt matter what application you use - to copy to.0 -
Done will try now................... fingers crossed0

Works but just get really naff screen resolution.........
Mmm any more ideas anyone........ Thanks greyster0 -
A large part of screen capturing software captures standard Windows output instead of DirectX output while DVD, Windows Media Player, Internet movies and other streaming videos use DirectX output to accelerate a drawing. Note, most of modern graphical cards use built-in hardware accelerators to draw DirectX scenes. Unfortunately, DirectX uses its own output system and can't be captured via the common Windows GDI interface.
In a nutshell, its unlikely you'll find a solution, especially a free one. It took me hours to find the above solution for a friend a few months back who wanted a screenshot from the Alice in Wonderland DVD.......

I know that Intervideo WinDVD has a screen shot function!
Press P during playback.
Although not free, it comes with nearly every single computer, preinstalled!
Hope that helps you all out. Sorry it took you hours 'greyster'!
