Diamond or Elephant.co.uk car insurance

I recently had an accident with my car a write-off. The insurance have offered a measly £650 although i paid 3x that when i bought it 2 years ago and it only just passed its MOT four days before the crash (anyway all this is another story).
I am looking at buying another car and have just used confused.com to get insurance quotes. Diamond and elephant were cheapest at around £900 but were much cheaper by all the rest, with the next cheapest at around £1800 (all with sme excess).
So i was wondering why are they so cheap, have people had probelms with them in the past, and maybe it would be better to pay more to get the better service elsewhere.
I would appreciate anyone who have had insurance with either of the two in the past to say what kind of experience they had with them good/bad.

Diamond is only a ten month policy - but even then it's still low...I had the same thing (diamond were £500 cheaper than the closest rival for me and my new driver-partnr) the policy docs look pretty good for the money. Obv the cover isn't as amazing as some others but it covers me where we really need it most.0

The cover should be all you need. They're owned by the same company that owns Admiral insurance.
As direct insurers, they offer competitive prices if you meet their criteria.
Try Bell Direct and Admiral too.
PS - They all offer 10 month and 12 month policies0 -
I had a £8500 claim with Bell 2 years ago, and it was a breeze
I ALWAYS insure my cars with one of the Admiral companies - usually switch each year as they do vary in price.0
