Help - Just back from Dentist - Terrified!
Comments
-
Just thought I would come back to this thread and say a big thank you to all those that gave me their support. I have, today, been and had this tooth out with only the local anaesthetic, and I was pretty well impressed as there was very little discomfort (and no actual pain) from the injections in my gums, and apart from the horrible noise that the tooth made when breaking away from the socket absolutely NO pain from the extraction:D.
I was doped to the eyeballs on valium (:o ) but do not think I would need that in future as it really was not anything like as bad as I expected (although not something I would actually WANT to have done:rolleyes: ).
Dentist had said he could refer me to the hospital for a general anaesthetic, but I thought about that and decided that going under for something like this was being rather irresponsible about anaesthetic (which obviously always carries a risk) and that I would "bite the bullet" so to speak and be brave.
Only dissapointment for me was that I didn't get a sticker saying how brave I was at the dentists like my DS does:D .
As to the fear of the needle, I kept my eyes tightly closed from the moment I got into the chair and clung to the arms of the chair with a white knuckle grip and managed to get there:cool:
Thanks to all who reassured me that it was not a dreadful experience, it really wasn't and I am most grateful to you all even though it still took me a while (and another abscess:rolleyes: ) to make my mind up. Thanks again."there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -
Hoo - flippin' - ray!!!
'bout time!!
Well done. PM me an address and I'LL send you a sticker! How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
Well done :T:T:T
I want a sticker too since I've had 8 injections in 10 days and am still only half way through.
... actually, I've been offered a free Botox instead of a sticker :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I'm scared of that though.:ode do-do-do, de dar-dar-dar0 -
Well done. Ive got that coming up too
Bottom right at the back, worrying about it. Glad you had a reasonable experience - oh free botox every time aurora!

Thanks Toothsmith! I got lots of fuss from my kids last night (after they had had a good look at the large hole in my mouth) and the youngest went and made me a "mum was very brave today" badge so I am well taken care of now.
I'm just hoping that it does actually solve the problem because I really do not fancy having to have the impacted bottom one done:eek: .
Thanks for your advice earlier, I went for a regular check-up and asked if he could use some cream or something in my mouth first, which he said he could but I had my eyes closed so not sure if he did:o , but to be fair I hardly felt anything at all from the injections, which was what was scaring me most.
I did jump a bit at the horrible noise the tooth made and apparently because of this I have a wee bit of root left behind but dentist thinks it will either work its own way out or not cause problems so he decided not to poke around to get it yesterday.
I know I was a wuzz before, but the only other teeth ever removed were some milk teeth when I was about 10, and they were at the front and the injections were dreadfully painful, plus I had such very long tangled roots on them (the were not straight roots) that the took a lot of shifting so left me a bit (okay, a lot:o ) scared of the whole process!
Suppose I should think myself lucky that I have never had a filling or extraction since seeing as I am 50:D ."there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -

Good Lord! 10 Injections! What are you having done? Forget the botox - I hate the look of artificially young faces, and the lack of expression they have:o .
Good luck with the rest of your injections - sticker herewith:"there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -

No pain at all with mine! Hope you have just as good a time with yours - I suspect the worrying (like mine) will be worse than the actual extraction:o"there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -

Thank you Mrs E - they are indeed grand! Mind, I feel so smug and big-headed about my "bravery" that I shall need the doors widened to get through at this rate:cool:"there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -
