Anyone got an alternative number for Currys Home Delivery?

... anything other than 02476 334162?
Placed an order online for a washing machine (for my parents) at the beginning of October, due to Lloyds TSB refusing the c/card transaction, the order wasn't placed (admittedly not Currys' fault).
Rang them as hadn't had any order emails - then they told us about the refusal of payment.
So - reordered over the telephone there and then - they took my web discounts into consideration and lopped off a few quid as well. That was the 18th October.
Received emails confirming order, "delivery date to follow".
Now on telephone to above number (given by websales to me) - it's the "Currys / Dixons Home Delivery helpline"... or it would be if they actually answered the telephone.
Oh, wait a minute - they have answered the telephone because I'm being played a loop of music over, and over, and over, and over (and on, and on, and Ariston - which isn't the model mum's buying, unfortunately).
So, I'm on hold for - oooh, a good 20 minutes with no answer, paying national rate (I don't live near - is it Coventry - 02476?)... and still holding.
Why oh why oh why can't these companies just let the telephone ring until someone can answer it?? Let's not have any of these looped music pieces. I fail to believe that they're "snowed under" with calls at 3.30pm on a Monday afternoon!!!!!!!
So - to my original question - I've checked Say No To 0870 for a different number, but it isn't listed. Does anyone else have an alternative number that I can ring to find out an approximate delivery date for the washing machine??
(and not the customer services nor the stores - I wanna deal with the monkeys at the home delivery department direct!)
TIA

Sign up with 1899 or 18866 and make that call for 3p (they charge 3p connection and 0p/minute thereafter for calls to 01/02 numbers) and hang on (an LST would be good at this stage).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
