Which Credit Card Purchases Are Covered

Hi
I am thinking of ordering my wedding dress online and as it is such a big purchase and needs to be perfect i am wondering if my credit card would cover the purchase ie refund the money if the dress what not as described or faulty ? I cancelled my paymetnt protection cover about 4 months ago - would i need to get it back ?
Cheers
Emma

If you are thinking about it, I would also try and get a cashback card for the purchase, you could get up to 5% off with a Amex Platinum card.

You do have additional cover for purchases over £100 on a credit card so I suggest its probably the best way to do it. That said, I'm not sure how it would work unless you have a standard dress as presumably you need to have a fitting for if you want alterations made as this would be the biggest source of problems?

Your credit card company will cover you if the goods do not arrive or the firm goes bust before you get the goods. As for if the dress was faulty or not as described then you would need to take that up with the retailer before your credit card would think about getting involved.

    Hi,

The law will cover you for this under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act - if you pay by credit card (debit card payments are NOT covered).

Section 75 will hold your credit card company equally liable with the supplier for faulty or damaged, mis-sold or non-delivered goods costing between £100 and £30,000 bought anywhere in the world.

What this means is that if your wedding dress arrives faulty, or damaged, or even not as completely described by the supplier - by law you can go straight to your credit card company to request a refund. Obviously, they'll try and point you back to the supplier - who you should go to first, but if the supplier refuses to cough up - the credit card company you paid for the wedding dress with is as liable to honour the refund of a mis-sold item as the supplier who sold it.

You'll also be covered wherever in the world you choose to buy your wedding dress. So even if it's online to a supplier in France or even China - you'll still be given the same level of Section 75 cover as if you bought it in the UK.
