Holly what is the purpose of your career break? and is your job guaranteed when you return?0
-
You can still take payment holidays, however, you are only entitled to one* if you used it last year and the year before.
You can only take more than one if you have a career break (evidence from employer that job remains open) or on maternity leave (evidence needed there also).
**To get your payment holiday you just ring up and ask for it, aslong as you've made the last nine full payments , and were'nt late with the payments, you wont have a problem. They wont do credit checks etc. it is simply a case of ringing up.
***The only other way you will be able to take more than one month is if you've overpayed, for instance if your mortgage payments were £500 a month and you had paid £1000 for the last 2 months you would be 2 months payments in credit so you could have had 2 payment holidays by overpayment.
****to save your phone bill, just remember that you can only book them one month in advance, so if you want September off, ring up before 20th of August, if you want October ring up before 20 September etc
*not necessarily true, you can accrue payment holidays but not entitled to more than 3 in a year
**and payments aren't made by DSS/DWP or from any other benefits
***i wouldn't advise pay hols by overpayment... credit reduces by payment and interest still added to the balance
****you can book these as far in advance as you'd like... if you however miss any payments or are late a decline letter will be sent advising you the month before0 -
No none of those apply. We don't have a second charge on the property, we've never ever requested a payment holiday before and we have lots of equity in the property. The most annoying thing is that they won't tell us. Also, it's over a month since we applied for this, and we have had nothing in writing. I telephoned earlier in the week to check on progress and the person on the phone indicated that they would not be proceeding with it, but could give no details.
Holly I would call back and ask to speak to a supervisor. The fact it is not proceeding but haven't had the courtesy to inform you is not good. Don't be fobbbed off by the call-centre, they are their to service clients and you're not receiving a service. You may not get the payment holiday but you should be treated respectfully.0 -

A decline letter would've been sent advising career break was declined, if not received this ask for it to be sent again.0 -

I am taking the break to stay at home with my children for 6 months. My eldest daughter started school this year and is having trouble settling in. And my second daughter starts in nursery at school from September, so her last few months before formal education. Also our childminder has just gone on maternity leave. So all things considered, it is a good idea for me to take the break now.
My job is guaranteed on my return to work - and my employers have put that in writing to the NR.
I'll give them a call again tomorrow and see how far I get.
Thanks for the advice0 -
That will be the reason why... the intention of career breaks is to give people the chance to possibly re-train or return to education.
What you are effectively looking for is a maternity break which can be taken anytime from the birth of the child to the child's one year old.0 -
We're looking to take a 6 month payment holiday as my girlfriend will be giving birth in June, we're not in arrears and fully paid up with all payments made on the day through DD. We're looking at starting the holiday in June.
Would it be a problem getting this? I assume they would want to see the MATB1 and confirmation she will return to her current job after this? If thats it we should be fine
We have had the mortgage just over 2 years and previously took payment holidays the last 2 Novembers for 1 month each year to help with Christmas0 -

Earliest you would be able to take MAT break would be September 2009 as you need 9 payments before the MAT break can be booked.
Don't need proof your gf is returning to work, just proof of the pregnancy/birth.0 -
I took a payment holiday last October they did ask if this was because I couldn't afford to pay my monthly payments but I told them no I just wanted to take them up on this offer and they gladly did but the women on the end of the phone did not sound happy to be honest.0
