Deleted Partition! Arghh! Any advice!

Aside from the obvious advice of "don't do it" does anyone have any more constructive advice after I just accidentally deleted the only partition on my external hard drive - which contains everything I want!

Ie I have a disk with loads and loads of data on it, about 150 Gb on a 320gb hard drive, but I have accidentally deleted the partition so it no longer is visible!

Now I want to get the data back - any advice!

The longer version, I decided to back up my computer on to my external hard drive. Copied all my files. The decided to reinstall windows. I inserted my windows disk, and chose to install windows on c: but before doing this I thought I'd remove all the partitions on the computer. Stupidly I forgot to remove the external harddrive with the back up on. Now I have a squeeky clean computer but with no data!!

Someone recommended using Helix which to be fair looks like an excellent piece of software - problem is it's a bit like someone telling me to fly a helicopter to get back from the top of the mountain that I'm stuck on top of. The helicopter could easily handle the task - I just don't know how to fly it!

Any advice related to Helix or separate please let me know.

Thanks

You don't need data recovery at this stage, just the ability to find your partition again. If there if some info lost after this point, you can use data recovery software.

Just don't do anything to overwrite the HDD at this stage.

Looking for a trial of Partition Table Doctor.....

This freeware will do the job nicely. It's primarily designed to recover lost parititions.

    TestDisk.

Sounds marvelous. I will post again once the problem is fixed, but for now I don't have a computer, so will have to wait until I do to repartition the external hard disk.

    What happened to your computer?

You are not really re-partitioning, you are just making the existing partition available for viewing again.

    Have you checked your PMs?
