You could make DD into a butterfly, black top and trousers then wings made out of tights and metal coathangers, you could use coloured tights or you could paint them once done,
You could make wings out of cardboard and elastic too, that just leaves all the sewing for DS's costume! HTH.xxx0 -
Ooh you could make a pumpkin outfit, orange cloth, with the face on the front, and you could put a cushion in the front and one in the back for making it round (just making it bug enough enough to cover the torso) with some green around the necklinr for where the stalk comes out.0

This could take a while to describe but I will try my best. It is very effective!Items required
Large white shirt.
Metal coat hanger with hook bit turned in or taken off.
sponge.
2-3 paper doylies(sp)
newspaper
red paint.
Cut the flap of the shirt collar off so that it is like a grandad shirt collar and fully button shirt up. Turn coathanger on side and hang shirt from this to give shirt some width. Stuff collar with newspaper and secure to coathanger with tape of some sort. Stitch 2-3 paper doylies(folded into quarters) from top in front of buttons to give lace effect. Cut underarms down part of the seam, this is needed to give the extra underarm space. Dont cut too far and when on button cuffs.Secure sponge to underneath of coathanger(this is so the coathanger does not hurt). Try over head and work out where eyes are and make a number of small holes so that you can see where you are going(this hopefully should be near to or behind the doylies). Hopefully then it is ready for you to paint the neck area with red paint or fake blood, splattering some down the front too for effect.

Papie Machie(sp?) Head
Cover a balloon in cut up newspaper with flour and water paste. Once dry burst and remove ballon. (this will take a while and will require a number of coats of paper, which providing its hard can be done when ballooon is removed.) Make a collar for head with cardboard and secure this to the papie machie. Now paint on the face and hair. I cheated for the hair and used a cheapie wig.
My son wore a white t-shirt with large black trousers and large black wellington boots. The shirt was easily placed over his head and the cuffs fastened,he then carried the head under his arm. It was easily removed for the party games.
I would have posted a pic but it was pre digital camera and I dont have a scanner or the pics might have helped.

I once made a pair of bat wings out of a heavy duty bin liner for Halloween. I split the bag carefully so I could open it out into a big sheet and spread it out on the floor. I marked the distance between my wrists onto the bin liner and drew out a big pair of bat wings. I cut them out, then wired along the top edge, turning over the edge of the plastic to trap the wire in the hem and taping it. I drew the finger like bones on with a luminous paint pen I picked up in a pound shop. You could also use metallic markers. I taped the wings to the wall with masking tape to do that but you could do it with them laid out on the floor. I attached ribbons to tie them to my wrists. My wings took up most of the bag and I am very small so you might need to tape a couple of sheets together. They looked cool and were a lot of fun to dance in because they swished around.
I did a Morticia costume out of bin-liners once as well. I wore a black leotard and shorties. I taped a fringe of bin liner around the arm just below the elbow to form a cuff. I cut a circle out of bin liners like a circle skirt but to reach the gound with the "waist" at mid thigh. Then I wrapped a strip of bin liner around my hips and thighs, down to the knee, and taped it to my shorties with a taped seam at the back and the flared "circle skirt" part taped to it on the inside. I used double sided sticky tape so it didn't show on the finished garment. I straightened my hair and sprayed it back and did gothic style makeup with pale skin, black eyeshadow which I also used for facial contouring and bright red lipstick.0 -
My friend made a bin bag witch costume last year. Basically made a boob tube out of bin bags, wrapping them round and round and stapling them together. Then did a couple of circles of bin bags around her waist and stapled more going down from the circle to make a skirt. Then she got some cheap green body paint out of the pound shop and covered her face / arms / legs and wore some black boots. She looked great and the whole costume cost about £2.50!Sorting my life out to give a better life to my:heartsmil 2 gorgeous boys :heartsmil0

For something a little different you could use my daughters idea.
She is creating a female cupids outfit which is just white and gold, she will be making a fake bow and arrow out of some branches, plus add to that some wings and a bag of heart shaped sweets and its cheap, fun and easy to put together.Success means having to worry about every thing in the world......EXCEPT MONEY. As it is Halloween at the end of the month no doubt some of us will be off to parties or going trick or treating with our LO's. Does anybody have any good ideas for costumes.
DD is going to a little family party we always have. I am going to send her as cat. Using a old sleepsuit that I will dye black make a tail to stich to the back with a old pop sock stuffed with some old tights and some sort of ears attached to a headband some how. Havent quite figured out the ears yet. So that should be free as I have all the necessary stuff already.
Over to you anybody got any ideasSorting my life out one day at a time0
