A lot of Banks use previous days balances to determine available credit. Just because it showed up on-line after mid-day doesn't mean thats when their system authorised/declined the transaction.
From their web site http://www.halifax.co.uk/bankaccounts/understandingcharges.aspCheck your balance and make sure you have enough money in your account by 5pm to pay everything due to be paid out the following day. The money in your account must be available to withdraw (for example, you must have waited for any cheques you have paid into your account to be available).0 -
Hey, hope this makes you feel better, they have done the same to me - after winning quite a chunk from them on the last bank charges reclaim, I am praying that I can do 2007 and 2008 charges. In fairness it does depend on who you speak to, I did have a very nice guy recently when I was incensed and something they had done again and he did waive the charge which was £70. Mind you, maybe he realised they had made a mistake! Otherwise, stick all the letters in a folder and cross fingers for the court case to be on the customers side. All these letters are sent out from an automated system and bears no resemblence of what it costs them in real terms. No one would mind a fair fee/charges but £35 is ridic. :j0

HARRRRRRRRSH. switch to abbey, as long as money is back in account by 5pm on day of D/D they don't charge. i didnt know this until one of the people on the fone told me to 'find' the money and put it in that day to 'replace funds'.
that was 5 years ago and i still do it now
