Hi,
I am going to build a pretty basic Pc, with a budget of about £200, maybe a bit more. Doesanyone have any recommendations for good decent components at a cheap price? Firstly I am looking for a case and a motherboard and then a processor.
Thanks
Jonathan

eBuyer.com is a good place to start they sometimes have cases with PSU for <£15 and normally the prices are good anyway.
Don't expect much left over after the motherboard and cpu. Have you included the monitor cost of this?0 -
If you're ordering from EBuyer - espescially if its blowout stuff, get it delivered ASAP or you'll end up like me: all the parts and no case to put them in
.... 'cos the case went out of stock just as they made my order up.0 -
look for a case with a psu as noted above - also look for the highest power psu you can get in the deal preferably 400w or more - this will help in the long run as you add more drives / cards / fans etc.
places like novatech, aria and dabs are also good places to look for cheap prices - i would agree that ebuyer is a good starting point.
on the budget side of things it probably is possible to scratch around and get something together for there and there abouts but unless you desperately want to gain the experience of building it yourself you would probably be better off saving some more money and spending around £300-350 on one of the base dell models - keep and eye on the shopping sections on here for deals.
as it's approaching christmas this is one of the better times of the year to get deals and the longer you wait the better spec of machine you are likely to find (cpu speed increases etc)."Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first." (Mark Twain)0 -
Hi,
Thanks for your advice. I am looking for a really basic computer which I am building for two grandparents, about 2Ghz or 1.5Ghz speed, maybe Pentimum 4. Also, about 512mb ram, or even as low as 256mb. Either 20gb and 40gb. I don't know a thing about motherboards, so any advice on these would be great. Do you have any specific product recommendations which have good reviews? Also which websites contain good reviews?
Thanks0 -
https://www.scan.co.uk often have good packages on their 'today only' or 'mixit' pages. you just need to buy OEM windows XP to have a good fast PC (sans monitor) for about £2300
