I know this has been asked a few times, so sorry for posting again, and I have searched but can't find an answer, since all the posts recommend comodo or zonealarm.
Basically I need a firewall for vista. I've tried comodo, but I couldn't get used to it. It seemed to pop up for just about everything, and even though I'd tell it to remember the settings, it'd pop up again a few seconds later telling me the same thing. I turned off the bit (sorry, don't know what it's called) that pops up when you're installing a program (I've just installed vista so it was annoying having it pop up every ten seconds when trying to install all the programs I use).
So, I uninstalled comodo and tried zonealarm, got the latest version but can't install it due to a compatibility issue with the truevector driver.
Tried to set up vistas own firewall to let me know about both inbound and outbound connections but once I set it to block inbound it just blocked everything even when the program was added to the exceptions list. I'm not sure if that's setup right, I googled a few guides on how to set it up, but the only options I have are to allow outbound, or block them. So it just blocked them, instead of asking me if it should block or allow them.
I'd always used sygate in XP, since I have a router firewall I just wanted something to alert me to what was trying to access the internet, so I could either block or allow it. But sygate isn't vista compatible.
So basically I'd like someone to recommend a simple (sygate-esque), easy to use fireall compatible with vista.

I use this free program : Vista Firewall Control it works with Vista's own firewall (there is a paid for version too "Plus" with extra features, but the free one suffices for me).
It integrates into Security Centre perfectly, and like all firewalls when in first run/learning mode it will pop up asking if you want to allow outbound connections but it DOES remember your answer! So after a day or two it shouldn't bother you anymore with repeated pop ups. :money:0
