halifax charges and Blair Oliver and Scott

Hi,
I really need advice. I have sent a letter to halifax asking for total amount of all charges levied on my account. I know this can take 40 days to receive but I have this morning received a rather threatening letter from Blair, Oliver and Scott asking me to contact them. When I checked these guys out on the internet, I realise that they are debt collectors working for Halifax. I am really panicking and don't know what to do. My overdraft was £930 and I was below it but last year changed banks. I checked my halifax account today and its £1,234 overdrawn. I haven't been using it and or even logged on to the account so there have been obvious charges added. Should I ring Halifax and tell them I'm on the verge on reclaiming charges and ask them to call off Blair, Oliver and Scott? Please help!

    hi

you need to write at once to the debt collection agency saying the account is in dispute and ask them to return the account to the halifax. write also to the halifax and tell them you will be making a reclaim for bank charges. if you dont have the amounts yet just do a brief letter saying just that.

I believe under the latest waiver the banks are not to pass accounts to debt collection agencies.

you mentioned you have an online banking, can you not go back up to six years on that and add all your chargs up rather than waiting for them to send you the info?

  • Thanks for this - I've posted a letter today to Halifax and will let you know their response.
  • You can only view statements for 12 months online - I already tried this too - but thanks for your help.
