" Current Financial Year Income Assessment " - ALG

Hey Guys.

I have been working the last 2 years, but in september plan to go back to college and get myself a decent job/career!

I am currently filling out the " Adult Learning Grant " application pack and I have a little question, It seems to be based on what I earnt last year, which was £13391, so according to the table i should be able to get £20 a week, I really do need the £30 tbh, as i have to pay my parents rent plus travel!. Now, it says if your income from the last tax year has fallen more than 15% ( Which it most defo has, as I am earning nothing now :o ) Then they will do a " Current financial year income assessment " on me, My question is what the hell is this? what do they do? I have savings of £16,000 .. will this be looked at? will my parents income be looked at?

Why not use some of your savings to support you through college? Sounds ideal to me. You could also work p/time as most students do and still get the ALG.

You should come under the current income assessment you mention as your income will have dropped by more than 15%. You need to provide the information on last year's income and then also proof of current income. They will then assess you on the amount that your income has dropped . I'm having difficulty posting the link at the moment but the information is in the ALG main guidance document. If you can't findit online your college will have a copy of it.
  • Ok cheers! Just a quick question, How would i prove of my current income? I acutally have no job at the moment lol! would my p45 then showing I have left be ok then?

I'd give them a ring and ask; it's a bit difficult trying to give proof that you have no income at all! (Can't you sign on?)

    Haha yeah, its strange innit!

I have been a lil stupid! I did have a little p/t job, it pays £71 a month .. it's only 3 hours a week! but i let my sister do it now, but it's still under my name ... i just give her the cash when it gets paid into my bank, so really i could just use them and say it's all I am earning?

 What you are both doing is unwise. I am pretty sure it's fraudulent for her to do the work and it to be paid to you. You should really rethink this.
