Well, I suppose your card could be pinched. There's risk attached to everything but, in general, credit cards are the safest way to purchase goods/services. (If you carry cash, it could be nicked. If you use cheques, they could get altered.)

Personally, I wouldn't fork out for insurance. If the worst were to happen, a phonecall to card services is all that's required to report your card lost or stolen. (There's usually a dedicated freefone number for this.) You're not held liable and a replacement card with a new a/c number is issued in a matter of days ;)

I agree with Moggles (what a lovely name!).

Just make sure you have the lost or stolen number somewhere handy just in case! Also, if it's an 0870 number or an 0845 number, look for the overseas number which will begin with 44; just omit this and add a "0" to front of the number to get the UK version. For example, Tesco's UK number begins with 08456, but the overseas number is 44 1268 50 80 27. All you need to do is to drop the 44 bit and add a zero to make 01268 50 80 27. Then, of course be sure to use an override service to call them(see Martins articles on cheap 'phone calls!)

I hope this helps and reassures you.

    Happy spending!

    Enjoy!

    I agree with Moggles aswell.

Also, if you need alternative numbers to the extortionate 0870 or 0845 numbers, then try www.saynoto0870.com

    Many have freephone numbers aswell.

Thanks for your quick replies everyone...........
I really cannot afford the £70 CPP were asking.
I don't travel abroad, I use it mainly in Tesco (it's a Tesco card) so I will follow your advice and make sure I have the number seperate from the card, incase the worst does happen.
  • If your card is stolen, the most you would be liable for is £50, but most cards waive even this amount. Once you have informed the card company, you liability is zero. I would save the money!

aa60, I have a Tesco's card and I use it everywhere because, although you only get one clubcard reward point for each 2 pounds spent, if you use the clubcard deals, it's worth 2 points for each pound!

So, in Sainsbury's I use the Tesco credit card and Sainsbury's Nectar card as well.

    We're all pleased to help.

    Best wishes.
