LCD TV for Freeview?

Hi everyone,

I’m in the market for a new television, 32” seems to be my optimum size so it looks like an LCD flat screen fits the bill, not that I particularly want one, just because that is what there is to buy.

I don’t have or will have an X-box or BlueRay player, there won’t be any need for it to be used with High Definition content through Sky, cable, Freesat or with a PC so as I understand it there’s no need for the newer 1920 x 1080 screen.

Apparently, most LCD flat screen TV’s don’t display the Freeview signal well, (not compared to a CRT anyhow), problems could include; smearing, juddering, ghosting, compression artefacts, flicker, jagged edges etc, the list goes on.

Does anyone have any personal recommendations of particular models that displays a ‘good’ Freeview picture? Or models that are particularly bad at Freeview!
Or just any general comments on the above.

I have a Sony KDL32S3000 and the picture quality from its built-in Freeview tuner was better than the picture from my Sky dish (until I upgraded to Sky HD), so I would recommend this TV for you.

Thanks for that Marty999 I must admit a Sony is top of my list, we had one of the original small Sony Trinitrons, it was used every day for nearly 25 years without a problem.

The Panasonic TX32LMD70 beats the Sony in Which? tests and is a Which? Best Buy. Richer Sounds are selling it for £349 - note the instore and website prices are higher but if you say you want the price advertised in the Times, they'll match it.

My mum has the Pana and it's great.

Thanks for your recommendations ,after 2 days reading about LCD TV’s on the internet I decided to go and have a look in my local Comet (due to past experiences not my favourite retailer).
All the sets were displaying High Definition output, (much as you would expect)

I picked out five sets that I was interested in and asked one of the sales assistants if he could tune them to a Freeview channel so I could see the picture quality.
    What, all five of them?
    Yes please.
I’ll just do one it will take me too long to do all five, anyway the Freeview signal in here is terrible so the picture won’t be very good.

He was wrong, the picture quality was abysmal, I left swiftly without buying a TV.

Perhaps better luck tomorrow somewhere else.
