Hi,
i had a webmail tiscali email after changing tiscali as isp to sky, wanted to have all emails go through to windows mail ( easier to access) rather than use webmail, im trying to do this without oh (techie) tutting and laughing at me!
ive been advised as there are issues if not with pop isp to using them for smtp, so i created a gmail acct and used that to filter it all through, but it is slow to redirect it and am worried its not getting all emails, when i send an email to myself i dont recieve it? but others are drifting through? i rely heavily as a comper on a decent performing email client and am at a loss as to how to configure it anymore?
Any help much appreciated xxxxx

    Hi

I have 2 gmail accounts and both working fine through Outllook. If I send from one, (in Outlook) within 1 minute or so, I receive from the other (in Outllook). Checkout Gmail help to make sure your config is correct (http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13278).

Have you followed the instructions on this email to set up your account in Windows Live Mail account properly? It's for Outlook Express, but it should be very similar..

Have you tried using smtp.tools.sky.com in the Tiscali account settings?

    dedward67 u r a diamond!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that link led me to this:
Why can't I download messages I send from my POP client?
In order to avoid duplicates, Gmail doesn't download copies of messages sent from within your client. However, these messages will appear in the inbox of Gmail when you access your mail from the web

lol.........so i aint going mad and i should be ok!!!!!!!! many many thanks everyone! xxxx

Are you saying that you cannot send/receive on your Tiscali account when using Sky as your ISP? What settings are you using for POP and SMTP in Outlook?

Maybe you need to put a tick in 'my server requires authentication' (as you are no longer using the Tiscali network to access Tiscali email). Seems Tiscali wants you to use their network when sending and receiving email, hence the local IP error message and don't allow other STMP servers to send email as that's a route spammers use, send email as someone else through a different STMP server - you are trying to send as a Tiscali customer, yet through a Sky SMTP server. The autentication may get around the problem, you just use the Tiscali POP and SMTP servers and select authentication - however Tiscali may still block it as you aren't on their network and don't want the hassle of people could be sending spam using Tiscali email addresses from off their network.

Do you not have to 'dial in' every-so-often to keep Tiscali email going before they delete the account, just sending / receiving email on it might not be enough.

One of the reasons why I've always had my own domain - change ISPs whenever I like and keep the same email addresses - similar can be done with the likes of GMail - however I prefer the more professional looking own domain email.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

i could recieve but not send when i used pop.tiscali.co.uk ,for the smtp i tried what sky said both smtp.tiscali.co.uk ( no joy) then i tried smtp.sky.com
now i changed it to gmail and seem to be ok, i changed the port numbers as gmail asks and it worked, my major issue was not being able to send emails to myself as a test but i understand now it lands in the webmail side of gmail and as its a dup of what ive sent it wont download it to windows mail. xxx
ive ticked all the right boxes x
