headgasket for an MG-ZR
No it hasn't gone already for those of you who know i have bought one lol!
No matter where i search i cannot find out how much one is online..all the refs on my other thread and nothing really about a headgasket on mine as such..basically if it is going to go then i need to know roughly how much we are looking at paying out and how much to save up! How do they go anyway?
Thanks

The gasket itself is pretty cheap. its just a bit of metal shaped to provide a seal between the engine and the head. If it goes, then its the cost of dismantling the engine, taking the head off, checking the head hasn't warped, skimming it level if it has, pressure testing it, and then refitting it all. Flushing the oil and coolant will probably need to be done too.
They fail in the k series engines because I believe the amount of space between the cylinder walls and water jacket is very small, so if the engines get too hot or corrosion occurs then the walls fail and the gasket fails mixing the oil and coolant. But please dont hold me to that as I am no expert!
My mum paid £1100 a few years back for her head gasket to be replaced. That was at a main dealers.0 -

No idea I am afraid. I think the later k series engines had the problems fixed so hopefully it should be ok.
Just make sure the coolant level is checked and topped up if necessary regularly, and that you get regular coolant changes every two years, if using standard antifreeze. Hopefully it should be ok.0 -
Didn't the K series engines have cylinder head bolts that went all the way through to the sump? :eek:0

yes they did, and these need to be replaced aswell.
why buy a car to constantly worry about head gasket failure and be actively saving for this to happen?
i mean this in the best possible sense but you really deserve all you get....work permit granted!0 -
