Mastercard SecureCode/World Pay

Hi
I use my debit card (maestro)to do online shopping and normally it works fine, but occasionally (it's happened about 3 or 4 times now) the transaction doesn't go through and it seems to be due to problems with Mastercard SecureCode/World Pay
I'm not at all sure how this system works and was wondering if anyone could advise? It seems to be an additional step that you have to make in order to make your online purchase, but I don't have this code they seem to be asking for..
Before phoning my bank (I have a feeling the customer service in Delhi won't be able to help me on this one..) I just wanted to ask on this board in case anyone else has encountered this problem?

The Mastercard SecureCode is an extra step used by some retailers. To use it you have to register your card with your bank's implementation of the SecureCode system and choose a password (this can be done when you first come across a retailer requiring this step). All future SecureCode transactions then need the password you have chosen to go through.
It sounds like you may have set this password up in the past and forgotten it. You will need to go to your bank's website to find the SecureCode section to see what you need to do to find out your password.0 -
With the Natwest version (not sure who they use but I think it's secure code not VBV) you can click to reset the password, not sure if you have that option but might be worth a try before calling Delhi??0

You can register for SecureCode at http://www.mastercard.com/uk/personal/en/cardholderservices/securecode/index.html0

Thanks for your replies.
Yes, I have an inkling I may have set it up in a hurry while I was Christmas shopping last year and then not thought any more about it
I'll try my online banking (I bank with HSBC) to see if there's an option to either obtain or to re-set the password. If that doesn't work I'll try the Mastercard website.
Thanks again.0 -
There probably will not be anything on your online banking (do not confuse this pasword with your online banking password - it is completely separate).I'll try my online banking (I bank with HSBC) to see if there's an option to either obtain or to re-set the password. If that doesn't work I'll try the Mastercard website.
Going to the following link will get you to the right place:
http://www.mastercard.com/uk/personal/en/cardholderservices/securecode/hsbc_index.html
If you have forgotten your SecureCode, just click the "Register Now" button on the home page of this enrolment site and re-register for SecureCode.
You will be asked to confirm your identity by answering your security questions again, then you will have the opportunity to create a new SecureCode.0 -
No, I couldn't see anything on the online banking, but I managed to find a phone number for a department that deals specifically with HSBC SecurePay. They helped me to set up the SecurePay a/c on the web (I now know that I didn't set one up before) and it seems to be working ok
