using qudico on higher value quote

hi there,
This is my first post! Yeah! I am looking for house insurance and the lowest quote I have got was for £96. However, if I went through quidco and used Lloyds I would receive the £120 cashback (hopefully) resulting in the cost being only £34.80. My question is should I risk taking the higher Lloyds quote on the assumption I will receive the cashback or should I play it safe and take the £96.00 quote?
Thanks
Mic

Have you had success with quidco before?
I've never had anything declined before but some people seem to have trouble.
This may be because I work in IT and understand the techie stuff.
FWIW - My lloyds TSB car insurance was paid £120 last year and I have £120 validated for house insurance this year.
Personally I'd go for the cashback, but then I've never had an issue with quidco.
So are you technically competant with the technnical aspects of it?0 -
Recently there have been problems especially with getting insurance related cashbacks from quidco.
They posted about the problems, and it would be worth reading about all the problems associated (and the quidco members comments that follow the quidco announcement, note lots have had their cashback declined) before buying a more expensive policy in the hope of getting the cashback:

One fo the main problems it appearsbut we must point out that doing this through other sites can lead to problems with Quidco cashback.
is people using other sites e.g. confused.com, and the quote is then "marked" as being from that "agent" for commission purposes.
One way I get round this is that I have 2 browsers (Internet explorer and mozilla firefox) on 2 computers (home and work). So 4 options in total.
One east way to keep it seperate is to do your searching at home but buy your final quote at work. Alternatively if you have one computer then you can use a different browser as this has different cookies.
But you must bear in mind that there is always a risk and therefore paying more to get cashback is not ideal.
Ideally you want to be paying the same or less AND getting cashback as an extra bonus. Payng a lot more is something of a risk.0 -
thanks for all the replys. To be honest I am not that techie so wouldn't have a clue how to get rid of cookies to stop all the problems with using comparison sites - all I know is how to eat them! lol
However, I did make the enquires via my work computer, but intend purchasing via Quidco through my home computer - does this help?0 -
You should be ok if you pick a NEW quote (don't retrieve an old one).
Thre are some instructions on quidco as to how to set up cookies etc. so you will still need to ensure it works on your home PC.
If you have cookies blocked then quidco won't be able to track the transaction.
So having a seperate PC would avoid it getting confused with preious quotes, but you still need it to be set up correctly.
Are you in a rush or do you have a few days?
Why not try (for exmaple) ordering a catalogue from maximuscle (no connectin, jsut an exmaple) to get 25p.
If you can try a few transactions first then it will give you confidence that the system works, but ideally you'd a bit of time on your side.0 -
Having "a few days" to try out quidco to see if ordering a catalogue shows up as a transaction won't be conclusive regarding insurance cashbacks.
If you read through the problems quidco users have had, many problems arise after months, not days, as their transactions are showing up after hours/days from buying the insurance, but weeks/months later they are getting suspiciously declined.0 -
Nothing is 100% conclusive, but my lloyds tsb did get validated within days (not just tracked).Having "a few days" to try out quidco to see if ordering a catalogue shows up as a transaction won't be conclusive regarding insurance cashbacks.
This means "The merchant has confirmed they will pay cashback on your transaction."
If you DO have time then if the insurance doesn't track you can cancel it (obviously more difficult if you need cover).
Can you tell us whether any of these problems are with lloyds tsb or do they mention other insurers? If you read through the problems quidco users have had, many problems arise after months, not days, as their transactions are showing up after hours/days from buying the insurance, but weeks/months later they are getting suspiciously declined.
I've personally have a very good experience with LLoyds tsb over several years (both with quidco payments and with a claim) so just wondering.
Are the problems with specific insurers or just generally?
But I agree with Quentin that there won't be any guarantee, so you have to be happy with the price of the policy.
FWIWIt’s interesting that people are having problems with Privilege, Churchill and Prudential all declining insurance transactions.
I’m sure it is no coincidence that these are all companies owned by Royal Bank of Scotland
Obviously do yur own research and read the whole blog.0 -

I see you don't operate the practice what you preach system, more the why get a dog and bark yourself system.
However, (from the blog):(Blog entry dated 21/6/08)
17 Jan 2008 12:02:31 Lloyds TSB Home Insurance 0.00 120.00 added unknown
I’ve had the above transaction from January 2008 with Lloyd TSB Home insurance yet there is no indication when I’m going to be paid. They have been paid in FULL with a credit card in January(Blog entry dated 23/6/08)
I purchased Endsleigh car insurance and Lloyds TSb home insurance, neither have tracked
Other insurers also mentioned in the blog.0 -

Firstly I am not the OP (and it's my lunch hour), so I don't necessarily have the same amount of time to invest in THEIR problem as I would suggest they do in their OWN problem.
I really don't see an issue with that.
I was asking in case you ALREADY knew and might help us out.Other insurers also mentioned in the blog.
Thank you very much for helping us out with specific info.
In these cases the people could have cancelled the insurance, but it helps if you have some time before the policy start date.
Obviously you have to weigh up whether it's worth the hassle as I know that getting refunds from insurers is not as straightforward as it could be (in one case I had 4 letters lost in the post - strange how payment cheques never get lost).0
