mobile phone insurance-worth the premium?

Firstly, sorry if this isn't in the right place on the forum, but it is regarding insurance....
Anyway, the current Mrs fp is soon going to replace her mobile phone - pay monthly around £30/mth. The insurance one provider offers is £7 per month, that approximately £84 PER YEAR!!! This sounds a lot to me to insure a phone worth around £150. My wife says that it covers her if anyone were to steal her phone and fraudulently make £ 00's worth of calls before she noticed and notified the service provider. Does anyone know where we would stand if we weren't insured in these circumstances? What I mean is - if someone nicks my bank card and fraudulently withdraws £1000 from my current account, I understand that provided I've not been negligent by, for example writing my PIN number in my wallet, I wouldn't have to foot that bill - wouldn't it be the same for a phone bill?
I'd be interested on any of your views, or anything I haven't thought of. (or are you all paying £7 per month???????)

I believe the networks' usual approach is that you'd be liable for the cost of any calls made before you reported it as stolen to them.0
