How old to "sell" storecards?

Not sure if this is on the right board but I have a query about selling storecards. Is it ok for a 16 year old to promote and open storecards? Personally I thought they had to be 18?

I'm unsure on this, while I was working for Sainsbury I had to tell my staff that regardless of age all they were allowed to do was respond to customers enquiries. Even then they were only allowed to direct them to leaflets/helpline numbers/staff at other locations that were certified to give them answers.

Having said that, everywhere you go now the staff seem to try to sell you the cards, and as a mystery shopper I know that they can lose points for not doing so.

I don't think that they're actually opening the store cards in any case. All I can imagine them doing is taking in the application form for the underwriters to then make the decision about.

They can't sell you alcohol, so I would assume they can't sell you store cards, as you need to be 18.

16 year olds can sell you alcohol, they just need the permission of somebody over the age of 18 to do so. Maybe something similar applies for cards?
