Student Bank Account Advice

Hi!

Any advice would be very much valued. I'm going off to Uni for the first time this year. I want to open a student account but I'm worried about being turned down. For the last year I've been carer to my chronically ill father and because my income was reduced I got behind with some payments and as a result I've aquired some defaults. Basically I wonder if I could draw on the experiences of other members. Is it worth my while even bothering to apply for a student account and if so are there any particular banks that are more sympathic than others (relatively speaking!). Any advice would be valued. Also even with a clean credit history would banks offer student accounts to mature stuents anyway?

Thanks in advance!

I've been approved for an upgrade of my RBS account to a student account but when I applied for the overdraft, was turned down.

Think I'll just try all the banks now to see if any approve. :(
  • Just been declined by RBS! Nevermind! On the positive side at least I won't have to worry about paying back an overdraft when I graduate!
  • i have applied for a HSBC student account simply because i already bank with them and always have! it has been approved but i am now wondering whether it is the right one to go with!!? i haven't signed for anything yet so thought i would try here for some advice! has the 2008/2009 best student accounts come out yet? Don't bother with Halifax/Bank of Scotland as they are strict about who they give accounts to. Natwest and HSBC are meant to be less strict.
