I'm trying to check my credit rating, but it comes up with an error message. I filled in the form at Experian, including all of my previous addresses back to when I was living with my parents. The error message says:

Sorry there has been a problem

Unfortunately, we could not process your application for a credit report because we were unable to fully confirm your identity based upon the information available to us.
In order for your application to proceed, you need to write to the address below enclosing a copy of either a current passport or driving licence in your name together with two other original documents connecting you to your present address (eg. bank statement, mortgage statement, council tax bill, solicitor's letter, or recent utility bill in your name) these must be dated within the last three months. Please quote your reference number ******** when you write to us.
    Your card has been debited.

Is this normal? Its a little bit annoying because its going to be extra work and expense for me, I thought it was going to be as easy as completing a form. But it says my card has been debited so I'll just have wasted my money if I don't do it.

Means you're not on the electoral register and so they cannot confirm your identity.

As such, forget applying online just instead send £2 to them (same address) and enclose your last 6 years addresses and a copy of your passport and a utility bill.

They will then post it to you within a week.

  • Oh dear =/ I had better get on the electoral register then. It says my card has been debited already, so I'll send them a copy of my passport and a couple of utility bills next week. I should have checked I was on the electoral register before applying really. Nevermind =)

What was your 4th limit increase? How often where the increases?

was from £1200 to £2300, I only noticed it by accident when checking the statement as I don't remember receiving the latter stating it increased.

frequency, I dont know, the first was defenitly fast only after about 3 months. I think I was on £1200 for about 6-9 months.

No they do not, not on cap1 intitial.

Why do you persist in trying to argue with me?

Please go to the sub prime thread and you'll meet over 200 people that have a crappy1 card and who all agree they increase on statement 4 and thats the lot.

You must have a different card - not the initial.

The Sub Prime Credit Thread - Part IV

    whats the initial?

I am on the card that was reccomended for poor credit rating's, this capital one card is the first I have had for many years since I had to agree to a payment plan to pay off the one I had used before.

This one is the capital one classic.

Ok I checked the subprime thread (which is where I got the info to apply for my card by the way). That points to the classic card. When I search capital one's site there is no card called initial but there is the classic card which I have reccomended for poor credit rating customers.

I can assure everyone here it is possible to get more than one increase because it has happened to me.

note: only the classic has no platinum on the card, my card also has no platinum.

I do notice that I have a higher credit limit than they say on their website as well.
  • If you would like to check your credit, you can go to gofreecredit.com to get a free credit report. I've tried it and their service is superb. They get back to you really fast as well.
  • Hi guys,

My apologies if this is not the correct place to post. I'm new to credit and last night applied for 3 accounts with JD Williams, Premier Man and Jacamo. Only Jacamo gave me a customer account and the others turned me down which is greatly confusing as they're all sister companies? Does anyone know if this will negatively effect my credit score? And if so, what I can do to remove their entries on my record?

    Many thanks!

Hi - the initial is actually barclaycard (initial) but its the same as Crappy1 Classic, sorry for confusing you - the others knew what I mean, the initial/classic means the base card for sub primers.

However, its unlikely you have this card because the limits are restricted - period. Maybe they upgraded you to a mainstream card and this is why your actual limit now exceeds the advertised maximum? I don't know without seeing your CCA but suffice to say, you are not a Crappy1 Classic customer - that's a fact otherwise you'd only have had one increase.

That said, they can increase further if they deem it necessary but this is extremely rare and to be fair, I think the logical answer is that they upgraded you. :D

Sounds possible, but my APR remains high 34.9% and my card hasnt changed. So I guess we can agree that getting a capital one classic is possible to get a automated account upgrade and as such more than one limit increase. However I have just reported some fraud I see on my statement and they dont seem happy with me now so I wonder if I am about to see a limit drop. They were moaning having to get the police in etc.
