Okay thank you - so how do you think I could me more appealing in future? I'm planning on applying for a mortgage in six months time and I'm worried I'll be rejected. I've only been in full time employment for three months, could this have been an issue today?

It could have had an impact, I'd doubt it would have been the sole reason. Were you applying for a relative large loan compared to your income?

Which credit reference agency did you look at your credit report on? Do you know which agency the potential lender searched?

  • Hi

New to the forum and I've been reading the credit sections of the site regularly.

I was hoping for some advice. I defaulted on 3 credit cards in July 2009. I currently have no other debt, apart from the usual phone contract and finished my final payment on a 5 year loan last September (Sept 12) without missing a payment and I have a Vanquis card which I make the minimum payment on each month, that. I have previously used the credit builder pre-paid card and used their £50 loan facility as advised by MSE.

I will not miss another payment before the 6 years is up post my defaults in 2009 - realistically, am I going to get any further credit before July 2015?

    Can anyone help?

When did you settle the defaults on your credit cards?

I paid 2 out of the 3 in full in March 2011 (Egg and Virgin), with the final account being closed in November 11 (Capital 1, with outstanding balance).

And I've just now realised its going to be 2017 isn't it... So annoying - I had a bit of debt and so stupidly thought a debt management plan was the answer! I was only in that for a year.

As an aside, I opened the Vanquis account in Jan 2012 and had the credit limit raised to the maximum.

I have also been accepted for a Barclaycard, which is paid in full every month (apx. £50-100) with a £1,200 limit.
  • I had a store card that unfortunately gained a default during a very bad time but then paid regular sums after an agreement was temporarily put in place. I then paid it in full and the account is closed. How does that appear on your file ??

  • I appear to have a slight issue when trying to check for my credit file online - my address does not exist. I live next to a new development (in progress) and when we moved into our house we had some issues trying to find out what our postcode should be. The Royal Mail officially advised us what it should be and I have updated the electoral register to show this. We receive mail as normal to this address however on several websites when trying to order things to this address I have to add it manually as the address does not match our postcode.

Will this be affecting my credit score as my address does not seem to exist? Also how on earth can I rectify this?! Any help will be much appreciated..
  • I opened & made a purchase using a Very.co.uk credit account on 12/9/13. In order to open this Very made 6 credit searches to my account. Is this normal?? Why isn't one enough?!

One is enough however are you sure they are all credit searches? Some may be anti money laundering checks or other ID checks and do not count as a full credit check when other lenders see your data

I've just checked my credit reports and there were two slight errors:

I have two current accounts which have always been in credit (one for bills, the other my main account)
The reports only showed by bills account, but incorrectly with zero balance throughout it's history, and my main current account didn't show at all.

I've contacted my banks and they've said they'll send my account details to the credit report agencies, but that they will only be able to send data from now onwards (and not historic data) - is this right? and will this reflect negatively at all that they don't have all the historic data?
