I don't know who the mortgage is with, I'll have to ask. I take it if they are a 'sub-prime outfit', it may be a harder decision to make?
My point is that an established name has a reputation to protect and should be less likely to do something that could damage that reputation.
    I am not technically family
It depends on how you would define it. If your girlfriend wanted to claim means-tested benefits you can be sure that you would then be treated as family!
  • Haha I see what you mean! Well I'm going to chat with my girlfriend's Dad tonight. It would be beneficial to see what the agreement actually states in regards to this issue.
Like you say, it is illegal to not be on the register at that address, so my reasons for wanting to register are legitimate and and also so that I am not breaking the law! And as I am living as a member of the family rather than a tenant I feel I would have a good case if this ever came to light.

    Sounds like a plan ;)

    Hello all,

I've just been rejected for a card after moving into a new place and I looked up Experian to find out why.

After filling out some detail on the website and having a couple of conversations with them on the phone I have recived the following email.
    Nearly there...

Now, I'm assuming that the credit companies had the same problem as experian, which is why I didn't get credit. I'd rather not send out my stuff to experian, but I'm wondering if getting experian to verify me in this way will improve my likeyhood of getting credit in general.

    Does anyone have any thoughts?

    Thanks,

    Joe

Joe R, that will definitely be a reason to be rejected for credit. I think you'll have to send your documents off, can't see any other way round it. But hopefully it'll solve your problem. I had a problem with credit for ages when I came back this country after living abroad for years, they seemed to think I was a non-person as I hadn't been on teh electoral role. I just putup with it until I had enough time back in this country for them to 'see' me again. It wasn't very satisfactory though.

I think you have no choice, it may not not be comfortbale viewing or it may be incorrect information.

Until you send off you wont find out. There's nothing that can't be fixed btw.

    Good luck

    Hello all,

Is a financial association on a credit file generally seen a good thing? I'm filling out forms for Equifax and Experian, to get my credit files from them, and I have the option of putting my partner's details on it. In the past I've stayed clear of creating association (so no joint accounts for example, we have a account which is joint for all intents and purposes, ie we both use it, but it's under my name only)

My partner has a better credit rating than I do - he's older, has had a loan in the past (and successfully repaid it, on time etc), and has a credit card; my credit rating is not great, but only because I'm young (23) and have never had any credit.

I don't want to create a financial association that will be to my partner's detriment, BUT, since we plan on applying for a mortgage in about 18 months time, if it is more likely to improve my file rather than damage his, maybe I should go ahead and put his details down to create the association.

    Thoughts?
  • Hi All,

About 1 – 2 years ago I missed a lot of payments on a credit card (I thought it was setup for DD… I wasn’t..) This resulted in a collection agency getting involved and I was forced to pay x amount for a month for a year to pay off the card in full, I have recently just finished paying this off. I also have another visa which I have never missed a payment on but only pay min amount (this one IS dd) In the past I have had a bank loan which I paid off before the term (so I paid if off early)
I have been living at my address for less then a year but I am on the electoral roll there

I would now like to apply for a 0% balance transfer account just so I can start paying off my other card as I only seem to be paying off interest.

Do I realistically stand any chance got getting a new credit card?

Also does having a collection agency reclaiming credit on behalf of a bank cause me long-term problems?

    Thanks
