You need to check your credit report and make sure there are no missed/late payments no defaults/CCj's then your chance of getting a decent card would look a lot better..
Thanks for the reply.I have credit expert subscription so I always keep an eye on credit report. Also I have seen equifax report thanks to Capital One as they provide upto 2 free reports each year.
Yes there are no missed or late payments. I have been living on same address 1 year now. I have o2 contract for 2 years which reports to ex/ep. Current account for 3 years which is also being reported to both agencies. Everything squeaky clean.
The only reason I think I am finding hard to get credit is because I am from States. I might be wrong but I can't think of any other reason.0 -

If being a Yank was the problem then Cap1 wouldn't of give you a card,If your credit is fine why not try one of the sygma card range, they give better APR's then what you have now..0 -
I recently tried to apply for a mortgage and was rejected with a statement saying to check credit reference agency. I went on Equifax to find I had a big red marker against CCJ.
I was aware of it but we paid it within 5 weeks of notification (at the time i was also 9 months pregnant) If we had paid within the month it wouldnt even show up on my account so for that extra week its now on for 6 years but as its paid surely it shouldnt still be red.
Secondly the court date and date of settlement are both wrong. We never actually went to court we paid nearly a month before the date and it was all cancelled.
The financial agency we paid the money too back in June said once it was satisfied i should have an issue getting a new mortgage. Obviously this is not the case.
For one extra week between not having it on my account at all - i want to know why we bothered paying it and causing myself a lot of stress when i about to give birth. Is there anything i can do to make it better and also get the dates changed as it currently says it was satisfied in July and the court date was end of april. Whereas we paid the middle of June and the court date was July.
Hope that all makes sense and someone can point me in the right direction.
The rest of my credit report is a glowing green ive never had any problem with it before and didnt actually in this case it was a misunderstanding on my husbands side who forgot i was on the agreement, then tried to deal with it without telling me so not to stress me or the baby out.0 -
The recent article - get paid £17 to check your credit file, is miss-leading. Equifax will not validate the payment if you cancel within the free 30 days.0

I disagree, I've used topcashback before to get my credit file, cancelled within the 30 days, and still have my CB approved and claimed0 -

I've had Equifax pay out on cancelled 30-day trials via Quidco - more than once, in fact :beer:Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Tried to register with Equifax, the most weird set of security questions I've even seen and heard when talking to them over the phone.
Do you remember the dates when you took out the mortgage, bank accounts and credit cards and credit limits on all of them?
They won't even close my account now but say that payment won't be taken from registered credit card!! Equifax are a waste of time in my opinion, Experian is much better!0 -
I cancelled Equifax on the last available day and as such have had my cashback declined. I think they have become wise to this trick now.
Note i cancelled just a week ago, so this might be a new thing.0 -

Well, you are supposed to have the account/mortgate agreements on file...
But I agree that they have registration requirements... I believe it is intentional.0 -
Hi guys Ive been rejected for a loan and I cant see why.
All ive had is 2 3 missed payments when I was younger in 2006 and 2008. Everything else is perfect Electoral role, searches ect yet Im getting a credit rating of 295 which is very low even though In October When I checked my credit report It had 400 and something. Its seems like my credit rating has halved for no apparent reason.0
