Nice! I do agree that the mix looks way too sloppy for cake mix tho!

One to try here if you fancy it :)

    Hello Stranger!

I always fancy it, me...... :rotfl:

Seriously though, the mix was exactly as the recipe instructed. Coating the fruit in flour before mixing it in wasn't an option, because you have to add it to the warmed syrup / butter mixture. The only thing I can think is that the fruit is meant to be at the bottom. :D :rotfl:

Cost a flippin' fiver to post, too!

Don't believe everything in a recipe, and especially if it's by Anthony Worrall-Thompson.

    I have to believe everything, I'm a bloke! :D
A hand-made ginger cake for his Mother's birthday. What a dutiful son.

:A She's worth it. When I think of all she's had to put up with, a cake's pretty scant reward..... :rotfl:
The next time you're in ASDA, have a look for a set of very useful plastic measuring spoons for just £1.00.

I keep meaning to find some, but never remember at the appropriate moment!

I was the same. Make a list. Of course you do then have to remember to make the list, where you keep it and to take it with you ...

Being an IT Tech', my 'whizzy' new shopping list is an Excel spreadsheet, so I now have to remember to print it out and take it with me. If I could only find a cheap, second-hand Palm Tungsten hand-held PC ...

    Cheeky! :p

And a fiver to post will be all that fruit in it :p There is actually a very nice looking honey cake on the same site as the previous link I gave you that I am thinking of trying. Seems quite simple as well :)
I live in my own little world, but it's ok as everyone knows me here :)
  • Any feedback on the cake from your mum yet?

My mum left on Friday to visit my sister. She gets back today. Sadly, the parcel did not arrive with the card that I handed over the P.O. counter at the same time as the parcel.

So it'll be sat at the P.O. until Monday morning when she can collect it. :(

    Long time no see! :D

Mum just phoned. Apparently I have to stop blaming Royal Mail. She had a card put through on Friday at about 1.30pm - an hour and a half after she left. It should be ok until Monday. :)

No, it's probably just a cr*p recipe, written to fill a gap in a magazine or book, theoretically correct but never actually tested. Just ask "Wozzer" what can go wrong with a recipe! I always test fly mine first, in order to detect and correct the inevitable incorrect or ambiguous bits.
